I Almost Died Last Night

Yeah but my doctor just the other week gave a complete bill of health- none diabetic indications according to him; and he's a top-notch medical doctor.

I do suffer from Bipolar and high anxiety. I do take over ten different meds to treat those illnesses. I am a disable individual with health issues but no diabetic ones. I'm very sure of that folks. Thanks heavens.

ah-ha..... maybe it's those meds then. I would say last nite was just a freak of nature. It is possible that when you wake up (along with these meds in your blood stream) perhaps for a piss, your body is not actually fully awake which leads to massive confusion within your body system. You are both sleeping and awake - your heart beat is still in sleeping mode which may be why you "fainted" and looked pale. :dunno:

I think I'm not making any sense but I'm hoping somebody understands what I'm trying to say :dunno:

Jiro: The very odd thing in all of this is that, according to my relatives, I was responding (awake) during most of the event. The strange thing is that I can't, for the life of me, recall one single minute of it. So very odd.

yea. you should tell this to your doctor. I wonder - the meds for your bipolar and high anxiety.... do some of them have warning that it can cause your blood pressure to suddenly drop?

btw - are you going to feed your cat a delicious dinner? :)

I've been taking meds, mostly the same ones, for years and I have never had this happen to me. I do not think it's the meds Jiro.

My cat is sitting on a throne (not literally) all this month. He's my life savor. Tuna time...here kitty-kitty.

It started around 2:00 in the morning. I had somehow got out of bed and walked to the bathroom. Our house cat senced something was odd and neared the bathroom door. It started making loud cat calls that woke up my relatives. They entered the bathroom and found me sitting up against the wall unconscious. They took my pressure and found that my pressure was extremely low. My breathing was shallow and I had a very pale complection. I started going in-and-out of consciousness and they gave me food to consume as they checked my sugar levels. The numbers were in dangerous levels. The ambulance was about to be summons before I began to show signs of recovery. Within a moment I was able to stand, so they claim, and stand on my own, I returned to bed: my blood levels and pressure began to stabilize. Within an hour (or so) I was at a point where I was recovering- the numbers were beginning to stabilize.

My next conscious awareness was waking late and feeling refreshed. When I saw our blood pressure machine on my night table, I began to ask questions and that’s when I got the news that I almost died that night.
Oops, I missed this post. I was composing mine at the same you time you were posting.

Thanks for keeping us informed. I'm very glad you weren't home alone when this happened.

If you aren't diabetic, how did they check your sugar levels?

I hope you will see your doctor soon for a follow up. We don't want you to go thru that again.

AquaBlue, glad you're feeling better now.

My first thought was diabetes as well but my second question is, could you be hypogylcemic? Did you eat properly that day, or miss any meals or anything like that? I ask as I have fairly low blood pressure and feel faint and weak if I don't eat every couple of hours, or miss a meal. I suspect low blood sugar too but have had a general blood test and told it was fine (non-fasting one though). Had you consumed alcohol or caffeine before bed?

I'm glad your cat was able to alert people :)

It could be due to your medications, or just something new and confusing- I would definitely tell your doctor. I have had symptoms like you describe and have fainted in the bathroom when it's 'that time of the month' but I don't think that was the case for you!

I just gave my cat some high quality cat food. And before opening the can, I kissed the animal on the head and guess what: it turned it's head and touched the tip of his nose with the tip of mine. I have one super good cat.

And there are people out there that do not understand why others get so attached to animals. Incredible.

I just hope that the event was a one-time thing melissa. If it happens again, I am (with haste) calling rescue. That's a no brainer.

Glad you are OK. i agree animals are so amazing. Obviously kitty does care about you greatly.

Awesome cat! And, I am glad to know that you are ok now. I hope they can find out the cause.

aquablue you sure know how to make me so happpppppy to see how beautiful your little furkid is! beautiful!

yes. I suffer from sleep apnea.

My mother told me that she uses her tongue exercise once a while so that her tongue would not be weaken - to avoid the apnea. Your tongue needs the exercise. Plus, loose some weight in order to eliminate some of your fat in your body.

Just in case if your bedroom is too dry, use your humidifier especially cold weather in the winter. I think it should be at 30 to 40 humidity (humidity temperature). This is a big different especially for sleep apnea.

Also, sleep side of your shoulder on the bed instead of lay in the back. This help you to sleep well. That's it.

Some people use their special retainer to reduce their sleep apnea. But, it has a drawback - the drool "choke" in your throat when you sleep without aware of fluid builds it up. It's not quite perfect.
