GREAT FALLS, Mon. - A woman accused of letting her 12-year-old daughter drive three siblings to day care has been fined nearly $1,000.

Angela Parenteau entered a no contest plea to one count of criminal endangerment Thursday in Municipal Court in Great Falls, KFBB-TV reported. Three other criminal endangerment charges were dropped under a plea agreement.

Prosecutors say in March, Parenteau allowed her daughter drive three younger siblings from their house in Vaughn to a day care about 15 miles (25 kilometres) away in Great Falls. Police say Parenteau claimed she was too sick to drive and on medication.

The state said it agreed to the plea agreement because the 12-year-old girl did not want to testify against her mother.

US woman fined for letting 12-year-old drive other kids to day care

To me, it seems like she kind of defeated the purpose of bringing her children to daycare. Wasn't she bringing her children to daycare to be safe and supervised while she went to work? And yet she got her 12 year old to drive them. Some people never cease to amaze me.

Good lord!...She must have been drugged up to allow this....Or pretty stupid. Could be she didn't want to be bothered by the kids staying home and just wanted to dump them off at daycare...not caring how they got there!

IMO, she wasn't fined enuf!....Should have locked her up for 90 days and a $5,000 fine. She's lucky the kids were not taken from the home too!

Friend of mine....let's her 16 yr. old drive and he doesn't have a license. He drives all over town....with several teenagers in the car with him.

It almost amazes me at the stuff I keep reading in this thread.... crazy people all around us...

At least the kids didnt get into an car accident or whatever...but still, no excuse. She should at least get someone else who is old enough to drive or whatever.

If she were that ill, she should have called a family member, or neighbor. This woman should have been placed in jail for 90 days, fined $5,000, and ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation to determine her mental capacity/ability to take care of her children. If she fails the evaluation, the children would be placed with a relative and the mother should be placed in a in-patient treatment program, and the woman would have to PROVE to the courts she has the ability to properly care for her children as well as make sound judgements regarding their care.

ffs get over it.

I have been driving since I was 11. (A manual Datsun 510, modded)
Of course the neighbors called cops on me and all.

No problems tho.

A 12 year old driving a family tractor on a farm going only about 15-25 mph is one thing, plus there is close parental supervision in that case and the child is unlikely to be put in any direct danger. If its a job that requires advanced driving skills the parents would likely take over. But this was a 12 year old given charge of a late model sedan likely with capabilities of reaching speeds near 100 mph (few regular cars can get over 110 mph - the speedometer lies to you). The child was driving a 30-40 mile round trip by herself with no adult supervision and was in charge of her three younger siblings. Do you not see the danger increasing exponentially? As a 12 year old I couldn't see over the steering wheel and reach the gas pedal at the same time.

"a few regular cars can go over 110mph" News flash, almost all of them can go over 110mph. I've gotten a 3banger Geo Metro up to 94mph, and that was the max.

Of course, there are the governers. 96mph on a F150, 80mph on a grand prix, and i could keep on :P

1995 Caprice Police Interceptor is pretty cool, you get it to kick into the 4th gear at 129mph :naughty:

My point: All of them can go at least 100, easy.

sad that she did break the law. I know some kids know how to drive earlier than age 10 yrs old. However, she broke the law. I feel bad for the mothers who make bad judges when she found a way to make things easier for her. Now she made a bad choice that she got a fine. :|

What a stupid mother her kids and other people could have been killed *smh*

I am not going to get into an argument with you regarding how fast a vehicle can go. All I said was few regular civilian vehicles can get over 110 mph, yes they can go 100 mph, but few civilian vehicles can maintain speeds of 110 mph or over.

My point was that the child was put in a situation far more dangerous than just driving around the family cow pasture.

Wow and I don't even like driving! The mother should have called a babysitter or let the 12 year old babysit!
