Obama went to Columbia University to major in political science - to be specific - an international relations and also went to Harvard law school... where he was the editor and president of Harvard Law Review. He worked for Business International Corporation, New York Public Interest Research Group, Public Allies, Developing Communities Project, etc. etc. (all related to fighting for "the people"). His Chicago job was impressive for a community leader... did a stint as professor of Chicago law school. and he became Illinois legislator... and then Senator.

That's pretty active enough for me, don't you agree?

How did that activity effect world or even national "peace?" Do you seriously think the Nobel committee would be impressed with that resume in light of international peace?

I remember I had to read a book about the power of ideas in my Honor English class at Gally and discuss how they changed the world. Some were flawed like Marx's ideas while Bacon's writing helped further field of scientific methodology; they had the power to change the world as we know. Perhaps Obama's book is not in that league but still it's quite compelling. When I read that book, I knew who the next president would be.. I will have to look for it and reread it as I've forgotten some of what he wrote.

However, it was not only MLK's talks but his actions, his marches in Alabama and elsewhere, his jailings, his active role in non-violence protest and such. All that earned him an undeserved bullet. What didn't help when Obama "screamed," "I want you to argue with them and get in their face." Not exactly
conducive of ensuring non-violence protest but more like an excuse to incite a crowd unnecessarily. Is this one reason why he was nominated for, too?
