Been singing a lot these past few days..."Lord, Help Me Make It Thru The Night".......

I went "Cold Turkey" on smoking last Monday.....screw the gum, pills, patches, etc. .....I've cussed out an Insurance agent today....rude to a friend, sleep as much as I can to avoid the "cravings" of nicotine. Otherwise, I walk around in circles, trying to find something different to do....

My boys are gonna avoid me for a few days, but otherwise, they are glad that I've taken the steps to get rid of this monkey on my back....a very expensive one!

I've broken a Pyrex pot, and kicked the cat food out of the way today....dunno what's gonna happen later.

Bravo!! Hang in there!! Remember, it's for your own personal health and well being. Your effort will pay off.

I quit years ago, but I had help from a doctor. I had nicotine inhalers, a medication called ZyBan that is for quitting smoking, and anti anxiety medicine. And it was still one of the worst experiences of my life.

But I have managed for8-10 years to be an ex-smoker. (not exactly sure of the timeline. Anti anxiety meds cause amnesia, which my Dr. said would be a good thing. He is an ex-smoker too.)

If it gets too hard, there is nothing wrong with getting help from your doctor.

Go to the market. Buy anything you like besides tobacco products. Eat as much as you want. Do this for 2 months, no guilt. After that time, prepare to eat better.

I have quit 3 times. First two times, I switched dope for cigs. The last quit I used the gum, and chewed as much as I wanted. I did not swallow the saliva when I chewed the gum, because I would have OD'd on it.

Has been over 7 years now. Never again. I learned to hate the smell, and hate what it did to me to smoke. Hate what it does to others.

If you ever fall off the wagon, make sure you find time to stand in front of a mirror and smoke an entire cigarette while watching yourself. This is what the rest of the world sees, including your boys.

I'm afraid to reply to this thread in case
R...R bites my head off! :Ohno:

 Good luck!

Tomorrow (Thursday) is my 4th day.....I'm gonna get outside, and sort thru our Xmas/Halloween decorations (in storage)....Keeping busy or either sleeping is working for me....

Gonna get some more carrots & celery to nibble/snack on....

Put up a sign on my front door also, "No Smoking".....

Everybody is "tip-toeing" around me.....I'm gonna make it! I'm strong-minded and mean to the bone!....Breathing very deep again, which is good, without coughing.

Savings of close to $35.00 a week!

Think...money!

That's $140 a month. Or $1680 a year. Or $16,800 in 10 years in approximate saving. Shoot, that's the cost of a new car.

I only have one friend who quit smoking. He wasn't a die hard smoker either and he said it was pretty easy for him to quit smoking. That's when he became a father... so he had found himself a good reason to do so. I guess that the only thing that helps you through is to hold onto something... Know what I mean?!?

Maybe the money saving part will help you ;)

Been a smoker since I was 11 years old....but I've quit several times, cold turkey....the longest was about 2 years (I think).....and I noticed that people who smoke, their breath is awful!

Yeah, finding a good, solid reason to "QUIT"...helps a hell-uva lot!....My reasons are $$, the boys constantly asking me to pls. quit, (it worries them). And I'm so lucky that at their ages of 18, 15 and 13, they do not smoke! And one of my "bestest" friends, talks to me on the patio because of the house smelling like smoke....And my health!....I want to be able to run a mile without giving out of breath, and fall is coming....an ideal time to get some outdoor exercise in, since it will be cooler.

Today's my 4th day....getting better every day! Breathing deeper, no coughing......I can do it.

I used to smoke. 40 a day. I worked out that I was spending over 5000 euro a year on fags!! I was working 1 full day every week just to get money for fags! Crazy..I saw the light! ( no pun intended ) and gave them up...best thing I ever did.

Thats two packs a day, gee! I know one person, 4 packs a day... Yep chain smoker! I can smell him miles away!

Well, quitting is not easy and yes the bitching symptoms does exist when trying to quit smoking. I know it is not easy because I was there! Man that was almost 14 years ago! 14 years this November and tell you this. I have no regrets and I bet that I have saved way over $16K.

Here is the secret to success... Don't give up! If this time fail, you may be able to overcome next time.

I remember I used to smoke two packs a day when I was in H.S. I went "cold turkey" after the last 3 years. I haven't touched a cigarette since then. I am sure you can do it, Rockin'robin!

I actually found the second and third week was the hardest period for willpower. My head started to make excuses: weight gain, headaches, crankiness. Once I got past that, it got easy pretty fast. It will be your proudest achievement in recent memory. I told everyone I knew what I was doing. That helped keep me on track, because I made failure an unattractive option. By now, if you smoked one, you would get really dizzy, plus it would taste like crap. I remember sneaking a smoke once during an unsuccessful quitting attempt, and thinking, as I spun around and my heart beat faster, "I have been doing this 20 - 30 times a day???"

Gonna put away all my ash trays tomorrow....lighters, too!....Got up in the middle of the night, feeling "strange".....just turned my BR air unit on "high", got a heavy blanket, and got under it.....

Few minutes ago, I had another "episode"....just closed my eyes and took deep breaths.....it's the nicotine that I'm missing....just a fleeting moment of being real nervous/scared......Smoking is a "crutch".....used in many situations/ People actually believe they can "think/function" better with a cigarette in their hand/mouth.......Same as for alcoholics, something happens, they grab the bottle/can....thinking a drink will make everything good again.....

Hang in there. After all, it is just an urge. The next 5 years you will be going backwards on the aging process.

Rockin'Robin hang in there, everything will be ok. I know it must be difficult, remember, you can do it!
