(CNN) — Less than a day after Rep. Joe Wilson formally apologized to President Obama over his "you lie" outburst, a campaign aide confirms to CNN the South Carolina Republican has raised "more than $200,000″ in the wake of the now-infamous moment.

News of that cash haul comes after Wilson directly asked in a Web video for campaign cash to fend off attacks from political opponents and said he's standing by his opposition to Democratic efforts at health care reform.

"On these issues, I will not be muzzled, I will speak up and speak loudly against this risky plan," Wilson said in a YouTube video released Thursday evening. "The supporters of the government takeover of health care and the liberals who want to give health care to illegals are using my opposition as an excuse to distract from the critical questions being raised about this poorly conceived plan."

The congressman disbursed the video via Twitter and asked his followers to "please watch and pass on."

"[Democrats] want to silence anyone who speaks out against it," Wilson also says in the video. "They made it clear they want to defeat me and pass the plan. I need your help now… contribute to my effort to defeat the proponents of government-run health care."

Wilson also sent a fundraising appeal via e-mail, saying he is confident "my voice is serving as the voice for Americans across the country who are tired of irresponsible government programs that have only worsened our situation."

The appeal for cash came as Wilson's Democratic opponent in next year's congressional race, Rob Miller, reported raking in $750,000 as a result of the outburst during President Obama's address to a joint session of Congress. Miller ran against Wilson last year, losing by eight points. It was Wilson's smallest margin of victory in his five elections for Congress.

In an e-mail to supporters Thursday night, Miller said he is aiming to top over $1 million in the next 24 hours, a total that dwarfs the $67,000 he has took in during the entire first half of the year.

So much for a sincere apology.

That, and the fact that he is on video stating the the leaders of the Republican party told him to call the White House and apologize.

Somewhere, he is drawing praise for his moment. It never ends. Am guessng there may be contributions from at least one member of AD. Almost makes me wish the Re-pubed had been elected, because all the loudmouth, self described pundits would go back to their fantasy world of personal happiness. Almost...

Great. Do something incredibly rude and then justify it with this BS:

On these issues, I will not be muzzled, I will speak up and speak loudly against this risky plan.

my voice is serving as the voice for Americans across the country who are tired of irresponsible government programs that have only worsened our situation.

Personal happiness is to think that the $2 trillion running deficit won't hurt anybody or affect us down the road when we're already in trillions.

Personal happiness is to think that we have the money to pay for each and every Americans (including illegal aliens) a subsidized govt supported and owned insurance program.

Personal happiness is to think it's great that our nations debt will double under the Obama plan and that the national debt will be three-quarters the size of the entire national economy by 2019.

Personal happiness is to jump for joy thinking it's great that the growth in US National Debt under this administration era would be 20.7 trilions versus 11.67 trillions it took to accumulate over the last 230 years starting in 2008 back.

Personal happiness is to think that a 9.7% unemployment is super duper while we continue to lose jobs by the hundreds of thousands each month.

Personal happiness is to think that the stimulus is working wonderfully and flawlessly (but where are the jobs?)

Personal happiness is to think that for a president to use his/her platform to insult and attack private citizens is a sign of stability and rational thinking and that by being whiny is a positive trait in a president.

Personal happiness is to think that playing the race card is a sure fire ace card up your sleeves.

Personal happeniess is to think that we have unlimited amount of money because we can keep printing it forever. No problemo.

Personal happiness is to think that Social Security is not going to default anytime soon and that it'll continue on forever and ever and ever, and you can depend on the govt that your retirement is rock solid safe (ever hear the phrase "fox in the hen house"?).

Personal happiness is to think that bigger and continuing expansion of govt is the answer to everything, right down to the last drop of your coffee drink which you will be taxed for.

Personal happiness is to think that by taxing everything under the sun in various guises is necessary and that we all must pay..pay..pay...for Congress mistakes and lack of accountability.

I think it's time for people to stop taking their "happy" medication and face reality for a change.

Finally, there were those who found humor in Wilson's heckle.

A hastily created Web site, JoeWilsonIsYourPreExistingCondition, hurled a new insult at the politician with every click of the refresh button.

"Joe Wilson poured salt on your lawn," said one.

Refresh. "Joe Wilson traded the dead batteries in walkman for the fresh ones in your TV remote."

Refresh. "Joe Wilson yells 'Freebird' at concerts."

Not everyone, however, was busy assigning blame to Wilson. Los Angeles actor and comic Paul Scheer decided to shoulder it.

"I apologize 4 yelling 'liar' during Obama's speech," he jokingly wrote. "Sen McCain ate my Kit Kat while I was in the bathroom & he pretended like he didn't."

Nah, better to fight against what is being attempted; to complain and "inform" us of the errors of a Liberal leader. I find it amusing. Things were so much better the last few years!

Are you sure that disrespectful & immaturity child raise more than $200,000...? *shake my head unbelievable*

Of course, it shows how fake his apology is.

That, and the fact that he is on video stating the the leaders of the Republican party told him to call the White House and apologize.

Oh yes of course, he was TOLD to apologize by Republican leaders. Without Republician leaders, he would not do that.

The Gaggle : Joe Wilson's Dirty Health-Care Secret

Might be nice for you to follow your own advise.

I have, but you haven't quite obviously.

I've always been a proponent of fiscal responsibility. I've always been a proponent of smaller govt and that larger and larger govt isn't the answer.

I've always been a proponent for health care choices (private and even some govt help is fine but not a take-over) and that illegal aliens have no right to gain access to our health care program.

I've always been a proponent against a single payer system knowing that it won't work.

I've been a proponent on lower taxes.

I don't pretend that the ballooning deficit won't hurt us big, big time eventually or that Social Security won't run out and default on us. However, you believe otherwise. And that's no difference than seeing an ostrich's head in a sand. To purposely bankrupt America, in whatever form or fashion, is wrong. I'm glad that you are a staunch, staunch advocate of bankrupting America.
