Not feeling well at the moment

Pinky,

Candy is good to try as well. :)

I know someone who told me to put Vicks on my feet whenever my allergies flare up or I'm sick with a cold. She swears by it, but I've never tried it before. I don't see how doing that can help you breathe better although I can see how putting it on your chest does or sucking on a Vicks drop will.

The worst sore throat I ever had was in 1996 when I had strep throat. My throat was so sore I couldn't even swallow which in turn made it impossible for me to breathe. I ended up going to the ER where they tested for strep, diagnosed me with such and sent me home with an inhaler and antibiotics. They also gave me a breathing treatment which I found extremely helpful.

My GP told me that illnesses like colds or strep can exacerbate asthma if you have it. This is something I never knew, but makes perfect sense. When I look back on my symptoms, I always seemed to have dry coughing spells long after I had a cold, strep or bronchitis.

hope you all feel better too! Honey and lemon for sore throat.....

worst sore throat I had was when I had strep too, HA! It was like my throat was on fire for three days!

For me it is harder to be sick in Summer because I naturally<personally> want to be outside more

be careful heat advisory today, HA

:ty: dogmom.

My GP warned me last week to be mindful of heat advisories when they are posted due to my asthma. I never really thought about it until now, but excessive heat and smog does make it much harder to breathe. It's hot today, so I will be staying indoors with the A/C. :)

dogmom,

The heat also increases pollen levels so I need to be careful of that as well due to my allergies although the new meds I'm now taking are helping considerably. :)

dogmom,

I know what you mean about it being more difficult to be sick in the summer. The weather is nice and the last thing you want is to spend the day in bed. The heat also doesn't help especially if you don't have A/C. When I moved into the apartment I live in now, I didn't have A/C for 5 years. The summer of 1995 or 1996 (I don't remember which) was very hot and we had temperatures in the 100s on most days. I was miserable. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford to buy an A/C, so I had to go without. The A/C I have now does a nice job of cooling my entire apartment and has been working perfectly for 10 years now. :)

I feel like I lost a week of summer due to this stupid flu!

Shel,

How are you feeling now?

HA, thanks for asking.

I am not out of the woods yet. I still have a slight sore throat and a bad cough. I did the laundry today which involved me going up and down 3 flights of stairs and I ended up feeling so drained. I am able to do things but not with the usual amount of energy. It really really hit me hard. My hubby just went to the dr today, the dr wants him to stay home from work for the rest of the week. He said when he got to work, he was so achy and had the chills. Stayed there for 5 hours before finally giving up.

This flu ruined at least 1 week of my summer vacation.

Wow Shel. It sounds like you had a nasty case of the flu. I'm sorry about that. I haven't had the flu all winter and haven't been sick since my upper respiratory infection in December. I did have a cold in January, but it wasn't that bad. My problems center more around year round allergies and asthma (which I was recently diagnosed with even though I've had it for years) I hope you feel better soon! :)

I'm hoping the weather will cool down a little so I can spend more time outside. I spent a few minutes outdoors, but kept it short because it was hot and my GP warned me not to be outside in the heat due to my allergies and asthma. I also need to be careful because one of my meds can cause heat stroke. I already fainted last year while at the grocery store and was brought to the ER. I spent 5 hours there only for them to tell me it was a side effect of my meds.

Shel,

Did you say you had a temperature of 102 or 103? I can't remember.

The last reading I checked was last Wed..it was 101.8 something like that. Most of the time it was around 99 to 100.

Compared to last week, I am definitely a lot better. Just not 100% recovered yet. My hubby's dr told him that we both got hit very hard.

Thanks!
