Obama Cuts Funding to Democracy Protesters In Iran.

Just watched a video of Obama in which he speaks out against the violence, the beatings, and the imprisonments in Iran over the last few days.

So there it is, he has spoken out against it.

yep there you go! it was the government who did the beating and imprisonment. We did not fund violence.

And now let's sit and watch what a difference it makes.

Ok, whatever it reads on your wall in the little box you live in, everyone playing gotcha with you running here and there just makes this thread insanely off topic. What about getting back on topic? :)

 Why are you telling me to get back on topic when I said it first? Got anything to contribute to this issue beside education system and your private school?

Nope. It was an applicable example. What is needed is fluid thinking. By your logic, any protestor that dies in the Iranian protests has not been killed by the oppressors, either.

what about Neda? she was killed by the goonie squad created by the oppressor.

Good. McCainites everywhere will sleep soundly tonight.

It's not that we are funding violence. It's that we are feeding its longevity. In order to overpower them, we have to give them a LOT of money. That might work, but if we are giving them handfuls of bills... we are encouraging them to keep going but without enough resources for a good chance.... so it seems to me, all or nothing. I vote for nothing.

so you don't think we have moral obligation to help the oppressed people? We should stay out of Somalia while they're being starved to death by greedy warlord? You think we should like Milosevic continues with his barbaric ethnic cleansing?

Again - link please that we're funding violence. Again - it was a peaceful protests that were beaten by riot police and Basijis aka goonie squads. Why the heavy censorship? Because it is the government who is using the violence, not the protesters.

um.... let's see.... We were in Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Iraq. All of those are functioning by their own people who are elected by their own people.

Afghanistan is a military republic. Kuwait is a constitutional monarchy.

You honestly think that funding the protesters isn't going to lead to a greater degree of violence? Puh-leeze.

Exactly. And feeding its longevity increases the incidence.

no................ Afghanistan is Islamic Republic. Pakistan is more of Military Republic.

Violence is always inevitable in any revolution but they are not shooting at people nor imprisoning people.

:laugh2:

Just responding to the previous question of whether I believed we had an obligation to speak out against the violence. Yep, and speaking out has been accomplished.

All that does is show that there is a flaw in your logic.:cool2:

is there such a thing as perfect logic? If so - we would have world peace

:fruit:

Not according to the Afghani I just spoke with.

Who isn't?

Think of it this way: We see someone drowning far away, you want to go save him, despite the fact you are not a strong swimmer and the conditions are horrible. You jump in anyway because after all you're Jiro. Me? I assess the situation and realize that I don't have much of a chance saving him and throw him a life preserver instead and call for help.

Most likely, the guy died in both situations, but at least I'm still on the boat, and you're underwater along with the victim having a death grip on you.

:fruit:

Not asking for perfect logic. Just non-convoluted and non-contradictory logic.

Just because that person is an Afghani doesn't mean he/she is well-informed about it. I mean for heaven's sake.... our fellow Americans don't even know who our VP (Dick Cheney) was. Quite a handful of them even though we were at war with France, not Iraq (even my other dentist friend with near 4.0 gpa thought so) :laugh2:

Remember Jay Leno's history/geographic quiz game?

a rather self-centered and cowardly analogy...
