Reusable Grocery Bags May Poison You

I clean them everytime I've done my grocery shopping :D

They probably just let trash pile up in their houses so that they don't trash the environment outside. ;)

Or they turn their trash into homemade compost. Now, wouldn't that be cool if every house has a compost bin?

thats easy to make, just a bit of time and think through where to have it is more crucial

Someone said that that would defeat the purpose of going green by increasing our laundry load and using up more water. Cant win, heh?

 If someone say so but why they can´t say the same about clothes, underwear?

I don´t mind to add reusable bags with dirty clothes into wash machine. Reusable bags are only small thing to compare with load of dirty clothes... :dunno:

I throw them in a load with clothes. Gotta have clean clothes so... a couple of bags at a time with a load, will not actually make it less green.

Just my opinion. If one truly wants to be green. Need to not drive, wash clothes, dishes, etc...

Live like cave men and women. Even then they killed trees, and learned how to make fire. etc.

 Yeah

And... their own bodies can be decomposed there! They've got their own burial grounds! ;)

Actually except dirty foods and things, cooking foods, baby naiper.

True, but someone who is truly living green will not use disposable diapers because of the plastic coating and the fact that they create trash. They would use cloth diapers, wash and re-use them, just like in the pre-Pampers days.

Give clothes in good condition to thrift stores. Clothes in bad shape can be used as rags. I collect old jeans and cut out useable cloth to make a denim quilt. I finished the top layer and now need to work on bottom layer as I want to make it reversible. I love denim. I can use the leg part to make a bag. Once I made a cloth-pins holder out of the leg part. I don't have that but I can make another one if I go back to hanging the laundry outside. I will have to figure out where I can put them without offending neighbors.

I like to use old clean cotton underwear/sock to stain wood before throw it away. That is why I try to buy cotton underwears/socks. Cotton bras are harder to find.

That's true.

Some people keep those bags in their cars for weeks or months at a time depending on how often they shop. Imagine how much bacteria builds up on these things while they're sitting in the car. On a rainy day, they get moist. On a hot day, they get dry. On a muddy day, they get dirty. Nothing is 100% perfect.

Yep, Nothing is 100% perfect.

It just fathoms me to know how bad it could be when you don't know if it has been cleaned or not. (not directing it at you though but generally speaking of)

I was thinking - You know, way back before the plastic bag came in the picture, we all had to use the brown paper bag for groceries, etc. Whenever it is soaked by some leaks from meat, milk or whatever it it is, it falls apart. We throw it away after we use it or if it is in a good condition, we use it again. I have to wonder, is it even healthier to use a paper bag instead of plastic bag or reusable ones? Maybe it isn't but then again, it was not always reliable for carrying heavy loads that were packed in the bag.

speaking of the devil, I went to SFW (Shoppers Food Wherehouse) and there was a sign saying $5.00 off your grocery bill if u use the cloth bags. Damn!

Any one been to the EcoDeaf site yet? It's cool.

I wash my shopping bags. I also have cloth napkins. Wash those with the towels. Makes a nice full load once a week. No need for dryer, just hang up in the sun. Smells nice. I use one roll of paper towels every 6 months or so. Sigh. Yep, I put them in the compost. Oh, gee, I guess - oh no - I am (pah) an OLD HIPPIE!! hahaha

I, a treehugger still use plastic bags because I can use it for garbage in my car, use for other stuff I need it for. I think it's generally cleaner than using a re-usable cloth bags, so it's no win situation anyhow. I don't find any use for them.

lol, you all talking green, this is going to be interesting what we will be doing daily in 10 years time. EcoDeaf? hmm gonna see that place.
