I had a driving test on Postal LLV (Long Live Vehicle). It have right side steering just like European cars but they're old and crappy (big white "box" with 4 cylinders engine). It runs like pee wee Go-cart. My Instructor instructed me to drive up the hill in the neighborhood. As soon as I went over the hill, I saw the man on bottom of street using garden hose, hosing off debris on curb. I stopped 50 feet from him and waited for him to finish hosing off debris (for safety reason). Few moment later, He is still hosing, my Instructor suggest me to beep the horn. So I beep the horn but the horn got stuck and it went Hooooooooooooooo and I rattled the horn button trying to stop it and it goes Hooo-hoooooonnnk-honk-hoooooonnk. The man was looking at us :confused: I decide to rip the horn button out and it did stopped. My Instructor tried to reset the horn button but failed cuz it was honking randomly. He pulled it out and let it hang on steering wheel. I unplugged the horn button from wire and gave it to him. We both laughed and I drove down and pull up to the man. I apologized him for honking at him and horn got stuck. My Instructor showed him ripped out horn button and he  ..

It was embarrasing moment for me on a crappy LLV!! I passed the driving test on the end of day whew!!

That's too funny! So you're gonna work for the Postal services, eh? You mean the Gruman LLV?

HAHA...has happened to me before also. I was alone and I'm stone deaf....when I did park my car, one of my neighbors told me..."ur horn is stuck"!

And I also drove my car to work and back, shopping etc. Kept feeling some sort of "drag".....finally asked my friend if he would check it out?....To find that I had been driving around with my muffler fallen off!

Yup crappy old Grumann LLV. They're going to phase out LLV and new FFV (Flex Fuel Vehicle) are replacing LLV. FFV are made by Ford. It look much nicer and have more features such as adjustable shoulder belt, steering wheel and seat (seat rise or lower).. My co worker told me that its brake, mechanical and electricial are excellent. LLV have lot problems and is falling apart  I will be driving LLV on my new job and I'm not worried cuz PO is paying me if LLV breaks down on me.

My friend had similiar problem with horn. He parked his car at his APT parking at night and went in. an hour later, the cop, and neighbor knocked the door and let him know that his horn is stuck. He went to his car and tried to fix it so he decide to rip horn cover off (1990 Mazda Protege) and finally it stopped. He found out that the heat of the day cause the foam inside to shrink and metal contact touched causing "stuck horn" syndrome. The horn cover was old that's why. He was embarrassed about it.

Hey you're not alone driving with muffler fallen off. I had same situation and my car pipe connect to muffler just broke and I spooked two women nearby. My car sounded like a 4 cylinder motorcycle with straight pipe. It was neat and I left it that way for 6 months  My kids love it.

So you're talking about the Ford Windstar minivans that they're replacing the LLVs? The LLV was designed to last for around 20 years of service (mostly city driving haha), which is time to replace them.

It's not Ford Windstar  . FFV is almost similiar to LLV but a bit longer and have better design and extra big window on left middle side for right handed side driver to see clearly before making left turn. FFV have 6 cylinder engine while LLV have 4 cylinder engine. My co worker drove FFV and he said it felt much stronger and sturdier than LLV.

That's the difference.

Yes LLV supposed to have 24 year of service but it seem lot shorter than that cuz of design and quality problems. Honestly, I checked around LLV and I can tell it's going bad like back up light cover had moistures inside (I think I saw mold on bottom of glass :eek2: ), Under the truck, it's leaking tranny oil and engine oil. Scratches, dings, dents, wrecks are everywhere on the truck. Some LLV had body damage0on side but it wasn't bad tho. It probably came from driver accidently drove too close to curb ect... Brake is so-so and squeaks and wheezes when I press (I wore my CI when I drove on practice course). It's almost time to junk the LLV IMHO.

I will be driving an "aluminum can" truck so I have to be careful while I drive or else I get crushed by car or Semi-Trailer  (It's much stronger than aluminum can anyway). I was told that in Springfield, MO. Carrier was delivering mail on LLV and she only have little shoulder room on side of road. Semi-Tractor was going 65mph as legal speed and driver misjudged the distance on side of road that he thought he would whiz by LLV but turned out the right side bumper of his Semi collided the back of left side of LLV. The LLV was totalled but the Carrier survived with little scratch cuz she wore seatbelt (remmy that she was on right hand steering side). I saw the picture.. I went :eek3: cuz it look very much like crushed aluminum can!!!
