I never used skype before, I noticed a hearing student always talking with a headset to someone. I thought it was pretty fascinating flawless the view of the other person. I asked, her what server are you using? She said, skype.

I have skype and never used to VP with someone. I think, will start using it more now :

Has anyone here used skype? If so, do you like it?

Not all Skype users require headphones.

It depends on the set-up.

My parents have webcams that have microphones included. They also have speakers on their computer. So, they can use Skype without headphones. :)

My parents like Skype.

I can't get VP, this appears to be an alternative. The reason the student uses headphones because its in the classroom. They use headphones to reduce noise. I am going to ask my deaf friends if they are willing to use skype with me :)

Thanks, for the feedback and your parents like it!

If you use headphones... you're expecting to hear the other person's voice. Right?

In that case, you would be talking yourself. So, by talking... you're making noises in the classroom.

Then you could argue that you're signing with the other person, but then again... that would have no noise. So, why the headphones?

It's like a deaf person wearing headphones to hear the other person sign. ;)

I also have Skype and I love it. Depending on the cam is the view in picture but the picture blows up and even to full screen. The delay is flawless.. I see everything almost real time on high speed internet connection and I use ASL on it as well. My friend yesterday says he gets freaked out because there is no delay like on AIM or Yahoo. Perfect for anyone without VP. I have used Skype for a long time and have many friends and family on it now. I also subscribe to skype service because I can use my headphones that go over my hearing aids and the volume control on laptop is so much higher to where I can hear better.
Hope this helped =)
