I just got my MVP and dlink router yesterday. There is one annoying issue that I hope someone knows the answer to. I will call dlink tech support if no answer from our fav AD'ers fans. I turned off the ssid broadcast by clicking option called invisible for wireless option. I cant seem to connect to the wireless on vista laptop. I used manual connect and type in the name of the SSID and password and type and then try to connect and nothing connects. Am I missing a step here ? FYI- If I turned SSID back on to visible then connect, then turn off I will be able to connect. This is not what I want to do. I dont want to bother to log in router to turn on broadcast when a freind needs to borrow my internet then back off when they are connected. ARGGHH!!!! Any ideas ?

can you please explain clear i might able to report on purple core or have you call custmor care ?

I had the EXACT same problem with CSDVRS Z 340. I turned off my SSID because I did not want the world to know that my router "existed". So I turned off my SSID. My laptop was able to connect wirelessly because I connected with my private key and my wireless network security is set to WPA - PSK with LONG name password key. That worked great!!

Then I got my Z 340 and I first connected with WIRED internet access to fix everything..etc etc etc. Then I took out my cable and tried to scan for wireless network...saw one that had WPA PSK with no name...I knew that was mine so I clicked and entered my key. IT would NEVER connect!!! ugh ugh!!

So I went to my router and turned on my SSID and the Z connected wirelessly. I guess it's safe if you broadcast your SSID. Maybe every so often you should change your key to prevent others from guessing/logging/mooching off your wifi???

Being invisble SSID on wireless wont let you connect since it is not on, you will need to set up a strong password so you will be able to connect wirelessly.

if ssid is invisible ,do not use autoscan or scan feature , just go in your wireless setting and manually put ssid of that router and password and it will still works ive done mine no problem from my laptop and mvp too

Stange, I never bother to use SSID because I personal don't care since I live in a country (mountain). Interesting enough, I would try this out.

well strange thing is before I had dlink router installed, I had belkins router and having SSID turned off worked fine. With dlink router provided by hovrs,it seems to be a problem.I am just using the dlink to see what other problems or benefits I would get from it.

deaf ironchef- I really dont think its a purple core issue as the problem lies with the DLINK wireless router. yes I know its granted that purple has provided the dlink router, but i feel the problem is with the settings or firmware itself from dlink, therefore its dlink issue not purple. purple only knows what default settings works from the dlink router and all they are concerned about is have the MVP working with dlink. Just like any other company that did not make the product, they only care about what works in default state, not in the changed form. Thats why I am asking here before making calls. Sometimes we get a better answer (right or wrong) from our readers instead of company political correct answers.

1) Disable your SSID from router
2) Delete your old wireless network from computer
3) Create the new wireless network and make sure you use correct security (WPA or WPA2) then put password from your computer
4) Put new wireless network at top of the list for connection first from you computer
5) If not work then reboot your computer

Incorrect.

My SSID is disable and my macbook still connection to router thru WIFI.

SSID is for auto scan only.

Use manually!!!

Tested it, it would seen MVP does not support SSID, but it works fine on my PC

now we are getting to my issue. not just MVP, but any pc in general if in invisible mode.

You must write exactly what is written in your router for SSID. Have you tried upgrading it to the latest firmware?

yup, i copied exactly the way it was. I even changed the ssid to something simple like "dad" so there no mistake. The router was already has the latest f/w when it was deleivered to me.
