NYC Homeless Shelter Begin Charging Familes for Rent

Oh, yup, that's right.

What about single people or married couple with no children, they are less chance to be homeless than families with children?

Not really. It used to be that families were less likely to become homeless because they were more stable financially, but that isn't true anymore. It really is sad. TheDomestic Violence shelter where I do some counseling has started to take in homeless women and children recently because we started having so many cases in the area, and there was not a facility to take women and children...just men.

If NYC is like that, I would say get out of there. No one need to put up with that.

just a question, why is the ghetto so bad? I mean everyone there is human. i never understood why people crave to live in the High class neighborhood.. why can't the low class consider themselves high class (you know, be contented where they live)? Maybe the neighbor is just bad because people made them feel that way.

The ghetto is bad not because of the people who live there, but because of the conditon of so many of the properties that slumlords don't repair and keep in good living condition. You are correct that the people who live in these areas are people just like everyone else, but society treats them like second class citizens.

I *shake my head sadly* reading the article and thought about octomom who have 14 children few months ago. She received everything to compare with single mother who earns $800 per month thru work hard. It´s sad that a single mother work hard to make sure that she won´t become homeless to compare with octomom who don´t need to work hard but just receive money from taxpayers to comfort her life with nannies...

Excuse me for my whines...

I agree with you, Leibling. Someone like the octomom actually gets rewarded for irresponsible behavior, while a hard working single mother gets punished for being responsible. It is the reverse of what it should be.

Cost of living just about anywhere is outrageous. Cost of food medical etc.

The essentials of being able to survive!

exactly, and homeless shelters is not exempt from all this. I can see why they want to do this. they want to make sure people who are in need don't get turned away and yet they don't want to kick anyone out just because they have jobs until they are ready. If nothing is done about it, the people who are in need will be sleeping out in the street. and the shelter would be just another dump for low income to live (the very thing people complain about over slumlord)

There should be a something similar to shelters for low income to live permanently. I know alot of people with disabilities love the shelter because it ease the responsibilities off of them without forcing them to get healthcare when they don't want it. Or a low income motel -like place just like My dad's friend is doing.
