U.S. Declares Public Health Emer.: Swine Flu

Hypocrisy is saying one thing and doing another.

Biden has the right to say what he did. No one (except maybe Obama) wants to shut him up. But whatever he says about an issue that can effect all Americans while being interviewed on TV as Vice President of the United States, carries more weight than what a mom advises a daughter in their home. In a free country we can comment on what our leaders say in public.

I believe my post of Biden's remarks is more relevant to this thread than Palin's pregnant daughter.

Not when that mom is attempting to give the same advise to an entire country. Biden made it clear that his advise was for his own family only. You might want to remember that the "mom" you are talking about wanted to introduce legislation making it the only type of sex ed that could be taught in schools.

Yes we can. Which means that we have the right to criticize the numerous ridiculous statements made by Palin every much as you have the right to criticize Biden.

And now I'm going to suggest if you want to make this a political issue, you start another thread devoted to such.

Is your decision not to fly because you believe there is a risk of catching swine flu on a plane?

Why do you think there is not? SARS spread that way and they quarantined the Tuberculosis man and tested everyone who had flown with him and if I remember right a couple of people did have to be treated.

Why, yes, Jiro, they do. And you certainly do.
i'm sorry but your statement is FALSE. Take it from the person's word whose qualification and expertise is in IT field. If you don't believe me - a simple google search can show you. :)

Why don't you use the credible sites?
Who said I didn't? I'm concerned for Americans because of Biden's remarks..... and the pigs-to-be-slaughtered! OH NO!

Those that do not have access to computers have access to newpapers and television and radio. CDC and WHO information is everywhere.
Unfortunately... in real world - both President's and Vice President's voices carry with a far more authoritative weight than CDC and WHO. That's why it's very important for them to carefully word their statement. That's why White House has press secretary and speech writer. :)

Biden's already admitted that he's known to speak frankly that can be easily misconstrued as something else. "Sometimes maybe I shouldn't be as straightforward as I am," Biden said Sunday on CBS' "60 Minutes."

Again - why did White House retracted and clarified his statement especially since you said "Biden just speaking for one noe other than himself." (in your own word from post #68) ? You've been avoiding my question.

Do anyone remeber how influenza and stomach viruses are spread...

Hear it on the news all the time among Cruise Ships and Airplanes!!

has that stop people from traveling!!

So I totally agree... I can only wonder, how many other illnesses was spread unknowingly VIA traveling??

T.B. Influenza, Stomach viruses, etc. :hmm:

Is your decision not to fly because you believe there is a risk of catching swine flu on a plane?

My decision not to fly is based on the fact that I am not planning a trip anytime soon. However, the risk of contracting the virus can be found in a classroom, on a train, on a bus, in a bank, in a library, in a grocery store, etc. etc. etc. Some one sneezes... a sneeze droplet can reach up to at least 40 feet! or more! (with out the wind blowing to drift it). An airborne virus lives longer and travels more readily in contained spaces.

EXACTLY!!

One can walk in "Wally World" and contract it.... Simply shopping!!

It was stated on my local news tonight, that we have a courthouse in southeastern Iowa that is roped off until morning as it had a flu victim in it.

They said this virus lives on surfaces for four hours.

You didn't mention anything about legislation for the whole country:

"Funny, how when we discussed Sarah Palin's abstinence only advise to her daughter and her daughter's pregnancy, we were told we were being unfair because she had the right to advise her daughter any way she chose regarding health issues like sex and birth control. But suddenly, Biden doesn't have the same right. I spell that H I P O C R A C Y."

No one stopped you, so I guess I can keep posting, too.

Public health issues are political. In case you hadn't noticed, it is politicians and government agencies who are making the national flu pronouncements. The head of U.S. Health and Human Services is a political appointee, not a doctor.

Why should I start yet another swine flu thread? Aren't there enough?

ok I guess I'll rephrase the question for Reba to make it more fitting for you. Would you go to classroom, grocery store, and library?

You didn't say owned computers...you said had access to. The vast majority of American have access to a library. Libraries have computers with internet access. So my statement is far from false. Perhaps you should phrase your quesitons more carefully.

Oh,yeah, you need to be afraid for Americans because of Biden's statement. It is going to destroy this country overnight! :laugh2: But I guess your concern is understandable, given the fact that you have already stated that the majority of Americans are incapable of logical and intelligent thought.

And that would be no one, not noe one.:cool2: The statement was clarified to prevent people like you from misinterpreting the meaning in the way you have.

So if you were planning a trip soon, would you or would you not fly, based on the risk of catching swine flu on the flight?

So do you not go to classrooms, banks, libraries or grocery stores because of the risk of catching swine flu?

Just like I have told others on this forum, I go where I need to go. However, I take precautions that are recommended. As far as travel is concerned, I will limit all non-essential travel. Why take a risk that isn't necessary?

And you?

My question was quite succinctly clear - "and do you think majority of Americans have computers? and access to internet?" it is not my responsibility for your misunderstanding. Again - are you sure you want to challenge me with that statement? You really really sure? :)

I copied & pasted your exact word to my post and italicized it. I just noticed that you just recently went back to your post and revised it. :) so you're admitting that Americans are incapable of logical and intelligent thought?

Uhh...those agencies are medically based. And in those agencies are health professionals that advise the non-health related professionals. They are making their pronouncements based on the advise of medical professionals.

Acess to the internet. Don't necessarily need a computer for that. I can get the internet on my phone. And if one needs a computer to access the internet, as I said, there are libraries. And newspapers, and television, and radio.ok :)

What post are you talking about? I have been reading an email, and just now responded to Reba's post.

Please, Jiro, get back to the topic. If you want to continue to harrass me, I suggest you take it to PM. You have completely stopped addressing the topic in order to engage in a childish attempt to discredit me, and you are hiding behind the skirts of another in the attempt to do so.

Your last paragraph is an addition after I had already responded to your original post. But I have said nothing of the kind. That was your statement. In fact, if you will check my posts, I have said the exact opposite. You are the one that is suggesting that you are so superior to the majority of the American public in intellect, logical thought, and comprehension.

Are you for real?!

Who's advice, do you think they are relying on!?

Mr. Magoo's?

Come on Jiro! You are pulling at straws now!

You actually think the President and V.P. are relying on their press secretary and speech writers??

They can make up their own speech and press.. Just like the media frenzies! reminds me of TMZ of the White House! :rofl2:

Acess to the internet. Don't necessarily need a computer for that. I can get the internet on my phone. And if one needs a computer to access the internet, as I said, there are libraries. And newspapers, and television, and radio
1. people cannot afford data service nor fancy cell phone
2. majority of people especially adults are not computer literate nor internet literate
3. majority of people especially adults do not "chill out" at libraries because most libraries close early evening and the adults get home at evening from work. I doubt the library would be their first place to go after work.
4. radio & television are the top-ranking means of median to communicate to the mess because of mediocre literacy rate in America.
5. Just want to ask you - are you questioning my qualification and expertise in this IT field? to save my time - I think you should do a quick google search yourself to verify my statements

What post are you talking about?

I'm sorry if the game got too hard for you. I think you should stop distorting my post and my intent. most of my post are ON-TOPIC. I'm questioning your statements because it's misleading and false. :)

btw - do you hate skirts or something?

please kindly point out where I said that :)

and I speak with reality and common sense, not smugness and superiority. Remember Y2K scare that you brought up? yea there you go :)
