I'm just curious if any of you have experience w/children and seizures?? I'm researching b/c of some other things that Adam has going on besides his HL and I'm clueless about seizures...

Have any of your kids had seizures? or did you experience them as a child??

how old were they (or you) were diganosed??

I've never been officially diagnosed with a seizure disorder, but I have had seizures before mostly due to high fevers and/or infections. It's a scary thing to witness. Seizures can be both a symptom of something like brain tumors and the condition all on it's own. Many times, children or adults with pre-exisitng neurological conditions will have a seizure disorder as well. Medications are used to control the seizures, but in rare and extreme cases, surgery is needed to control a severe seizure disorder that threatens the person's cognitive abilities.

I never had a seizure as a child but I've had one grand mal seizure that I'm aware of, and 3-4 smaller petite mal seizures. The difference between the two is that a grand mal seizure is the one most people think about - the convulsing, eyes rolling back, and shitting all over themselves (yes this happens, thank god not to me though).

A petite mal seizure can take various 'forms', from the person simply "spacing out" of the conversation to the person actually going stiff and go unconscious.

From my own experience both types are physically exhausting. After my grand mal - I was very weak and sore for about a week, and I felt like my mind was in a fog for a long time after that.

I'm not sure what its like for a child, but those are my experiences as an adult. I would go into a lot of medical terminology but I figure layman's terms would be more helpful in this case.
