N-Obama at Notre Dame University

Guess Roman Catholics can't learn the art to forgive and forget. Of course--critics hate themselves--so they need to learn to digest and move on.

Forgive and forget? Obama's executive decisions are still in effect; that's not the past. I think you are expecting them to ignore what Obama is doing, not forgive some past sin for which he has repented.

Well, why was Obama invited in the first place? If you don't like it, don't attend. It's that simple.

*rolls eyes*

Obama has the right to his beliefs and opinions. And the Catholic Church has the right to theirs. I don't see how Obama coming to the University will really hurt anything...no one is forced to attend. If they don't like it, they don't have to show up, simple as that.

And let's not forget...this thread might end up locked and moved to the religious section of the forum pretty soon. I wouldn't be surprised.

Why they invited Obama in first place when they are well aware of his opposing view?

I do not see anything that Obama come to correct Catholic's belief nor debate with them but LISTEN them but why can't Catholic do the same then?

No....think Reba.....

If they invited Obama to begin with, why now the uproar over Obama giving the commencement speech?

Notre Dame knew what they were doing--just another ploy to get media attention.

to flame him? :dunno:

According to the website, it's traditional for Notre Dame to invite the sitting President of the United States. Also, it appears that there is a rift between the administrators who did the inviting and those people who are protesting. Those who are making the "uproar" are not the same people who did the inviting.

Why would Notre Dame need "just another ploy to get media attention?" Isn't Notre Dame famous anyway? In fact, negative attention could lose them donations to the college.

Freedom of speech is allowed at Notre Dame. Moral outrage and protest is normal with college students.

It's a Catholic college, so it's not unreasonable to expect them to follow Catholic standards. According to the petition, "'This honor is clearly a direct violation of the U.S. bishops’ 2004 mandate in 'Catholics in Political Life': 'The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions'.

What do you mean, Obama came to "LISTEN them"? He's been invited to give a speech, not to listen.

It may be traditional, yet one can always change it. :) But they choose not too.
