Mvp :>

Right, there is no Embarq in WNY, that I know for sure.

Have you tried Verizon, Or Frontier?

What I know so far is that in WNY, there is three ISP companies beside wireless and that is Time warner, Verizon, and Frontier.

Please, please avoid Clearwire, as there is no guarantee if you will get best video experience.

To be clear, almost no cable companies have FiOS (Actually they are starting to pop up nowadays), only that I know Verizon offers FiOS.

If you wanted to know which is best for VP? There is NO single answer to this question, it is because it is based on geographic location.

DSL cable is the shortest of all, they can go up to 1,000 feet away from switch or booster before they lose speed. They got limit of 15 hops from the T-1 line, so if the T-1 line is over 15,000 feet away with 15 booster, then the speed drops considerable.

Cable, approximately 5,500 feet away from booster or switch, of course it is better than DSL However I am not sure how may hops they are limited to, so I don't have the answer to this one.

FiOS, can go up to 5 miles without booster or switch! On older FiOS, they are limited to one node, meaning limit of one public IP address, so basically can't have more than 1 VP at same time, but now more and more are offering multi-node so it is good news right no.

So, suppose you had DSL switch only 250 feet away, then that DSL would be best choice, on other hand, if cable switch is say 1,000 feet away, and DSL switch is 1,000 feet away then the cable would be best choice.

So again, it all depends on geographic location.

Believe or not. My friend from New York and he use Clearwire and he have lot problem with it for incoming, lag, etc.. So later New firmware update to 1.7 (updated from Jan) for VP and it's smoothing, incoming work great. no lags anymore.

Yes, we talk a lot thru VP. I noticed it much better with new firmware 1.7 for VP.

It is the beginning, I have seen very limited area where cable company offers FiOS. I do not recall where, I can't remember everything but I DO know there is cable company that offers FiOS.

FiOS is only from Verizon. Verizon never own cable company. Please avoid to use word "FiOS" it for Verizon only not other company.

Verizon FiOS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You can use "fiber optic internet" words.

he never said Verizon owns a cable company. He said Cable Companies OFFER FiOS.

proof
In addition, Verizon has negotiated a cable franchise that would authorize it to offer FiOS TV in Philadelphia. The franchise is pending review and approval by the city council and mayor.

more proof

Umm. Offer for FiOS tv, not FiOS internet.

There is no offer for FiOS internet.

"Almost no cable" Sound like there is few already have FiOS.

You may take the gun. :)

:) so there it is.... but our posts are still correct :)

Right. VZ is not in my area yet.

No... Cable internet don't have fiber optic modem yet. Check your modem's rear. They still use coax modem.

Again. Where you get the info? Please show me the link that you found. I know someone who build the cable for internet and tv and they still use coaxial cable for Comcast.

Thin cables runs thru the house and bldgs, the coax cable for the outlet only, the thin cables inside of walls, it's an fiber optic cables.

Before digital cable system old coax line system inside the walls. then digital cable system operated they replaced the old coax line with new thin cables and digital junction boxes in apt bldgs. it's pretty BIG 1 digital junction box rather than few old coax junction boxes. Last time I saw Comcast techies replaced lines, they removed old coax lines and installed new thin cables in whole bldg for the walls..

My cable modem and digital cable box still use coax to the outlet, but inside walls it's white thin cables.

My security video are on Channel 906 on my digital cable box for who's there at the entery room with intercom phone box. it's on the digital junction box in the underground parking garage. The security cables goes to digital junction box with dip switch or electronically digital enabled channel 906 to all residents who renting a digital cable box.

Basic cable (without digital cable box or convertor box), there is no security channel, it's required digital cable system to be enabled channel 906 to view a security channel.

Do you have Sprint or ATT 3G (high speed) coverage in your area? If so you can use it for your VP.

Fiber Optic is not anywhere in USA yet. Cable internet (Comcast,Timer Warner,etc..) never own a fiber optic. Where you get the info from?

Comcast can go up to 50 mbps for download thru cable (not fiber optic).

In my area, we only have Verizon and since i live out in the country
where there is no DSL lines, it is impossible to get high speed internet.
I dont know about fiber optic. I will have to call them about that.
Now you guys mention FiOS, i will mention that to Verizon people and
see what they have to say about that..ok?
I appreciate your information on this as im desperate to get something
so i can get some kind connection like fiber optic or something so i
can get VP!
Really, im clueless about these things, lol...duuuhhhh!

Yes, Verizon has Fios. Cablevision has fiber optics, but it is for business only. It is not for residential customers. It just starts.

NJ has Cablevision, Comcast, Verizon (both DSL and Fios), Time Warner (only in Northern NJ near NYC area) and Juno (only few). I was told that AT&T DSL is starting to spread out NJ very soon.

Time Warner for Northern NJ is an ass.
