Paul Meniere Question

Ooops. Sorry that is your impression. In this thread I was making an observation and asking about its validity. For some reason I was under the impression Meniere was a native of New York state, not France.

Actually I only remember one point I really disagreed with you on. And that was in a post where I agreed with you on something like 3 out of 4 points.

I disagree. ANd next time try for 4 out of 4.:hmm:

Based on my research, I think there was a sense of pride in culture within the Deaf prior to the founding of Gallaudet University, particularly in Europe. Some of the information, or at least jumping off stages for my research came from the following link.

Timeline

Of course there was.

Gallaudet only came up as it was part of a quote on Lane's separatist philosophy. It is sort of immaterial to the discussion.

OK, at the risk of being off topic again you are right and my memory was wrong.

Prosper Maniere was born in France.

Sorry for the mix up.

Bottesini,

Can you provide me with some resources of Lane's opinions you posted above. I will be honest that I haven't read "The Mask of Benevolence" or "When the Mind Hears" from cover to cover, but then as he is the author of both, I doubt I will find anything negative regarding his positions.

Mod's Note:

The thread is moved to it's proper location.

Just a minute and I will see if I can find it. (I was taking a tiny temper cooling break. )

No problem, I am heading to bed, but will check tomorrow. Thank you for all of your help. You can probably tell I am a newbie, I didn't even know which location to start the thread in. To be honest, the whole Deaf Culture is new to me. My original topic for my presentation was The Deaf and Legal Issues. After starting my research, I changed my topic to Deaf rights through history. My research has provided me with a better understanding of why many in the Deaf Community feel the way they do about the hearing community. I am also hoping to use my presentation to help my fellow students better understand The Deaf Community.

That is the source of my first quote above on "kinship"

If you can get the below sources they will tell you more of his views.
