hi everyone,

how many of you are looking forward to tuesday's presidential inauguration? i know i am! i wish i could be in washington d.c. in person! i'd pay any price to go! :D

will any of you be watching the coverage on tv? i know i'll be glued to the cable news networks and may even videotape it if i can get my sister to hook up my vcr to the tv before then.

how about you? will any of you be going to the inauguration yourselves? (lucky you! :))
 
I believe Nika's hosting an inauguration party and will be going there. I'm not interested cuz it'll be insanely difficult to get there due to massive security protocols. i'll watch him in tv... that should be more than enough :cool2:

that's true, jiro. i'd love to go, but when i think about the crowds...uggh. :eek3: i guess it will be just as good watching obama on tv as it will seeing him in person. besides, the last thing i want to do is freeze my you-know-what off in washington d.c.! :lol:

i hope nika will chime in on this thread and tell me more about his party and whether or not he will be in attendance.
 
I live 5 minutes from DC line. I work for the federal government and we have the entire day off. As a regular commuter, I can only imagine the potential for pandemonium on the trains. I will be watching from the comfort of my home.

I am definitely looking forward to going. I'm so excited that Obama is going to be our New President! The first president I voted for and he is the change we need! He has a lot on his plate, since Bush left behind a huge mess, but at least we won't be adding more to the problems.

The crowds for me will be intense but I will be staying with a group of 23 people that I know and therefore don't mind bumping into as much. Hopefully I will be so overridden by excitement that I won't be too anxious. I also get my new sunglasses that are much darker tinted which I'm very happy about since my eyes are very photophobic.

We're having 23 people stay at our house. We have maps ready, water bottles, and enough food to feed them. (It helps my parents own a restaurant--they're used to dealing with large numbers.)

We are bypassing the metro. We will be walking to the Capitol. We're leaving the house at 7:30 in the morning. It's about an hour and a half walk from my house there. It will be freezing, but not as cold as it is today. Also when we are walking we will be warmer. We have tickets to the Newseum, where we will be watching from (luckily indoors).

By the way I am male.
 
Nika sounded like a girl's name to me. I thought it was short for Nicole or Nikki or something. :|

Nika is short for the Russian name Nikita, which comes from the Greek Anekitos. Khrushchev's first name was Nikita. The nickname for Nikolai--the Russian variant of Nicholas--is Kolya.

In Russian, almost all nicknames end in -a, whether or not they are male or female. For example, Masha is a woman's name, Misha is a man's name. Tanya is a woman's name, but Danya is a man's name.

My bladder would never allow me to attend in person, ha, ha.

I have to work that day, so I won't watch it live on TV. Maybe I'll tape it to watch later

there was a song back in the 80s by elton john called "nikita." i absolutely loved that song. now every time i hear it, guess who i'm going to think of? <smile>
