Secret Service to unveil new presidential limo

I wonder what is the top speed for a city bus? Not the same as the Prez limo, I'm sure. :P

If I recall correctly.... Presidential motorcade travels mostly at least 60 mph. Can hybrid city buses do that easily within less than 10 seconds?

methinks not :cool2:

is your hybrid city bus designed to withstand bomb blast? high-powered bullets? RPG? nuclear & biological & chemical attack? and still be drivable after those attacks?

methinks not :cool2:

What? I don't understand what you are saying, I was talking about the vechiles, not weapons.

I rode on the city bus on the freeway and I feel like we are riding the speed as everyone else.

I read about my city's city buses website and here's what they said.

C-TRAN vehicles use a mixture of ultra-low sulfur diesel and biodiesel fuels. This combination has reduced C-TRAN’s current greenhouse gas emissions by 90%
C-TRAN uses two B-100 biodiesel buses, which are 100% free of any greenhouse gas emissions.
C-TRAN is introducing electric-hybrid technology with the purchase of 12 new electric hybrid vehicles.
C-TRAN buses, on average, carry over 40 passengers per vehicle; in one year that’s nearly 2,152,500 vehicle trips that are taken off Clark County roads.

Welcome to C-TRAN

I am starting to wonder why don't those semi-trucks do the same?

What? I don't understand what you are saying, I was talking about the vechiles, not weapons.
I said that hybrid vehicle is not likely to withstand the assassination attack and you said - why not? my city bus is a hybrid and it can carry all these people. I replied back that your hybrid city bus is not designed to withstand assassination attack. The President is not using a bus to commute around. He needs the engine he can count on to withstand all extreme abuse.

Hybrid Engine will most likely be damaged and un-drivable because it's a complicated engine. I don't know what kind of hybrid engine they're using because there are a few types of hybrid engines. Battery + Gas? Biodiesel? so on. I'm sure they will find the way to make the hybrid engine as tough as regular one but it costs money. a great deal of money.

I rode on the city bus on the freeway and I feel like we are riding the speed as everyone else.
yea because it has the engine size of 3 large bookcases to power the bus and the president limo's engine is a lot smaller than that.... You could say the presidential limo's engine is small like a car but tough like a truck.

I read about my city's city buses website and here's what they said.
cool but like i said - can it withstand assassination attack and still be drivable? can it reach 60 mph within less than 10 sec?

1. hybrid engine is not powerful enough to haul tons of cargo.
2. hybrid engine is not matured nor proven yet for commercial purpose
3. hybrid engine does not work properly in all weather & altitude
4. They'll probably start using hybrid truck by 2015
5. did you know commercial trucks usually never turn off their engines? the only time it'll be off is for routine maintenance or.... it died. I don't know if hybrid engine can withstand that kind of abuse.

believe me - companies and truck drivers are always wanting to find a way to be as fuel-efficient as possible because they're paying a few hundred bucks per refill but they need an engine that they can count on. They're not ready yet to trust hybrid engine.

In an emergency, the Presidential motorcade has to be able to zoooooom way beyond 60 mph, and take the turns upright.

I still don't understand.. You mean, like keep running and driving with the bombs throwing on the car?

Also about president riding on the city bus, I didn't mean that, I just mean that why not the president buy a hybrid limo?

Yup as I showed from my city's city bus website.

Ahh gotcha..

About the assassination, I don't know. For the mph, well I am not sure, I just feel it speeding up on the ramp to the freeways and it seems like just about 10 seconds before the speed increase stopped..

Yup the hybrids are too new for the semi-trucks as well as the city buses. Those city buses in my city are not so old, it started from 2006 which are only 3 years ago. I find it fantastistic to see hybrids handling with the heavy load vechiles. I really hope that they success their plans :)

yup! amazing, right?

Well Obama did want hybrid limo and that's what they're working on. I'm just hoping that it's as safe as traditional Presidential limo because the President of United States' life is constantly in danger for the next 4 or 8 years.

that's my point. Hybrid Engine is not likely to get up to 60mph within less than 10 seconds (mind you - that's incredibly fast). What's even more challenging is to make it go 60mph within less than 10 sec with an extremely heavy vehicle!! In the article, it said that Presidential limo has 8-inches thick windows, steel-plated bulletproof armors, electronic gadgets, the reinforced protection at the bottom of car, etc. etc. Can you imagine how heavy is that?

yes it is fantastic about hybrid bus but it is very costly. Hybrid city bus costs 3x more than regular city bus. Hybrid Engine is not TOO new. It has been around for a decade or so but it's just not cost-effective & matured enough for practical purpose. It has finally come to this point where it's good enough for Prius and city bus but it's still costly and tricky (it doesn't work in any weather & altitude).

*rockets explode harmlessly against Prez Limo*

Driver: Wanna see what this baby can do, sir?
President: Yes, please. Move it! Move it!
:P

Yes it's amazing! Very heavy, yes.

I thought the electric cars was invented long time ago more than just a decade? Also my location had snow strom last week and the hybrid city buses still run around. :dunno:

yes electric car was invented long time ago but unfortunately very inefficient, costly, bulky and unreliable. It's possible that your bus was a regular type during snowstorm :hmm:

but if not - chance is it probably used regular diesel instead of biodiesel. However - like I said.... the trucks are usually kept running and never turned off so it's fine to operate under extreme cold weather. If you turn off your engine even for 30 min... chance is it's not going to start again because the pipes and tubes inside engine will be frozen. then again.... it's possible the mechanics poured anti-freeze additives along with fuel. by doing so.... it's not environmentally-friendly. I don't know... just my logical guess :dunno:

it would be nice if there's ADer who is a commercial truck driver or a bus driver or knows one to answer this question for us. :cool2:

lol oh btw - I'm not sure but I read somewhere that if the limo was attacked by high-power bullets or bomb right at the President's side... he will survive but he will suffer hearing damage.... and he may become deaf because it's a sealed cocoon inside the limo so the shockwave will be quite painful.

That is old info though.... I don't know if they have come up with a solution to prevent that but I don't see how. It's a drawback of having well-secured, well-armored vehicle.

Yea probably.. I wish that too

I wonder what is the top speed for a city bus? Not the same as the Prez limo, I'm sure. :P

the top speed for a standard city bus exceeds 75 mph while a hybrid bus hovers around 40-45 mph.

40-45mph is pretty damn slow but that would make sense. There's absolutely no reason to go 75 mph for bus in city :laugh2:

I have to wonder why the government would even release plans and details of the limo? wouldn't that make it easier for someone to find out the weak spots? I wonder if they release false details.

Heh, heh, remember "Speed"?

what plans and details? All they said that it's a hybrid and a couple of obvious security features that's already available for private use. As far as I'm concerned... Secret Service has been doing this for many years... so far - the past several Presidents have lived to their full term(s) and no assassination attempt has ever been done on Presidential motorcade. and yes it's always possible they would release false details. Like what Sun Tzu said.... "All warfare is based on deception."

no worry there.

:laugh2::laugh2::laugh2: that movie was actually awesome! probably the best action movie ever in a while even though it's so fake but it's very watchable and enjoyable.

There is a lot that they haven't released, believe me.
