You commit libel!:P A quote from Sarah Palin to People magazine.

Actually--you might want to re-check as it is stated here:

Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston May Get $300,000 for First Pics of Baby

Cha-ching! People magazine is said to be paying the unwed high school drop-out duo Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston a cool $300,000 for pics of their new baby boy, Tripp. People beat out Us Weekly, InTouch, and OK! for the snapshots of the little guy.

Congratulations to the proud parents. Though, like Andrew Sullivan, I have to wonder about the mixed message of selling baby pictures to a supermarket mag while keeping quiet to the likes of the AP:

Palin: Future son-in-law is no high school dropout

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says her future son-in-law is not a high school dropout as the press is reporting.

The former Republican vice presidential candidate also issued a statement about the birth of her first grandchild.

Palin told The Associated Press on Wednesday that 18-year-old Levi Johnston is enrolled in high school through a correspondence program.

Palin said some media outlets also are erroneously reporting that her 18-year-old daughter, Bristol, is a high school dropout. The governor said her daughter is enrolled in regular high school and has taken correspondence courses.

The AP reported in an October story that Johnston dropped out of high school to work on the North Slope oil fields. The wire service hasn't mentioned Bristol Palin's status in school.

A phone message left at the home of Johnston's mother wasn't immediately returned Wednesday.

Bristol Palin and Johnston are the parents of Sarah Palin's first grandchild, Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, who was born Saturday.

Palin's office initially would not comment on the birth of the couple's baby, but on Wednesday the governor broke the silence.

"We are over the moon with the arrival of this healthy, beautiful baby," Palin said in a statement. "The road ahead for this young couple will not be easy, but nothing worthwhile is ever easy. Bristol and Levi are committed to accomplish what millions of other young parents have accomplished, to provide a loving and secure environment for their child."

In the statement, Palin's spokesman Bill McAllister said, "The high volume of press inquiries, along with some erroneous information that was published, prompted the governor to make a statement."

In the same statement, Bristol Palin said she "obviously discourages" teen pregnancy and understands previous plans have been forever changed.

"Teenagers need to prevent pregnancy to begin with — this isn't ideal," the teenager said. "But I'm fortunate to have a supportive family which is dealing with this together. Tripp is so perfectly precious; we love him with all our hearts. I can't imagine life without him now."

Johnston has said he and Bristol plan to marry.

Hmmm...corespondance courses? Had to have dropped out of the public system for a time in order to enroll in correspondance courses. Point is, neither one of them has completed their high school education, and already they are parents.

And they have been saying they "plan to marry" for months now. What is holding up the wedding?

At least Bristol now understands the importance of preventing teen aged pregnancy. Sad that it took her getting pregnant to understand that. Maybe if she had been taught about prevention instead of abstinence, she would have understood it a lot sooner.

Both of Bristol and Levi are not a high school dropout as Palin says. I believe that the correspondence courses are parentin' classes they both could attend to for their newborn child.

As for the marriage issue, I wouldn't worry about it for HOW LONG it takes for them to marry as long as they say they plan to marry. Give them time since they are 18 and just havin' a baby. Time don't limit them. There's always ANYTIME.

It's okay for Bristol to experience since everything are new to her in her relationship with the baby's father. It is not the first time, because everyone experienced their " first time " and such, too. It doesn't really bother me at all, not even a big time. It's okay to make a mistake so, she can learn from it. Without makin' a mistake, how will she be able to learn ?

It is a shame that teenage pregnancy continues to be a crisis this day because nobody learns from history and as a result, many people suffer more.

The correspondance courses are to finish their high school diploma. Please re-read the article you posted.

Don't "family values" platforms stress marraige before the birth of the baby, or preferably, before conception of the baby?

Hopefully, children are in an environment where they don't have to get pregnant as teen agers and put the baby at risk, not to mention their own future, in order to learn. The way to do that is to teach them how to protect themselves before they make a "mistake". Especially a mistake that changes the entire life course of the mother and the child. And if the relationship is so "new", perhaps they would have been much better off using birth control to prevent the pregnancy until the relationship was more stable.

How do you know what her parents did or didn't teach her? If Sarah Palin's statement quoted in the LA Times is any indication, she likely did teach Bristol about contraceptives.

Palin’s statements date to her 2006 gubernatorial run. In July of that year, she completed a candidate questionnaire that asked, would she support funding for abstinence-until-marriage programs instead of “explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics and the distribution of contraceptives in schools?”

Palin wrote, “Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support.”

But in August of that year, Palin was asked during a KTOO radio debate if “explicit” programs include those that discuss condoms. Palin said no and called discussions of condoms “relatively benign.”

“Explicit means explicit,” she said. “No, I’m pro-contraception, and I think kids who may not hear about it at home should hear about it in other avenues. So I am not anti-contraception. But, yeah, abstinence is another alternative that should be discussed with kids. I don’t have a problem with that. That doesn’t scare me, so it’s something I would support also.”

Did you listen to her speeches at all during the campaign? She is for abstinence only as far as sex education is concerned. Obviously, abstinence didn't work in this case.

Sarah Palin has been caught in any number of quotes that were totally innacurrate. That is nothing new. We have come to expect it from her.

Can't disagree with you there.

"Sarah Palin isn't Trig's real mom! It's Bristol!"
"Sarah Palin bans books!"
"Sarah Palin thinks Iraq is a mission from God!"
"Sarah Palin ignored her own supporters yelling 'Kill him!' and calling Obama the n word!"
"Sarah Palin made racist comments against Obama!"

Poor Palin. She keeps getting caught in these false quotes.

Seriously, I don't remember abstinence-only being brought up very much in the campaign. I did a fair amount of searching and couldn't come up with anything other than what's in that LA Times article. If you have something I missed, I'd be happy to see it. Still, how do you know that she didn't personally teach her daughter about contraception, especially given her quote about being pro-contraception?

I must be misunderstood, I thought it was Palin's child.
Gov. Sarah Palin is Bristol's mom. Sarah had a baby son, Trig, with Down's. Bristol just gave birth to a baby son, Tripp, without Down's. Bristol and Trig are sister and brother.

Yep. 18 at the time of the birth. 17 at the time of the conception, according to the announcement made by Palin during the campaign.

Still not married, huh?
All I asked was, "When will she be 18? Just curious."

Asked by Wragge if Bristol and Levi plan to get married and finish high school, Heyman replied, "I think all of that is in the cards. Levi is an apprentice electrician. Bristol is studying via correspondence course to finish her high school diploma, and they have said they will marry in 2009. So we'll see."

Sometimes correspondence courses are better than public education.

Neither one of them has completed their high school education, YET. If Bristol just recently turned 18, then she's not beyond high school age.

Yes, they became parents before they graduated high school, and before they married. What's done is done, and now they should be encouraged to go the right way. They are both of legal age, so all anyone can do is encourage, not force, to do things.

And they have been saying they "plan to marry" for months now. What is holding up the wedding?
Who knows? Outside of their family, who cares? Are you that critical of other unwed teenage moms?

At least Bristol now understands the importance of preventing teen aged pregnancy. Sad that it took her getting pregnant to understand that. Maybe if she had been taught about prevention instead of abstinence, she would have understood it a lot sooner.
How do you know that Bristol and Levi didn't know about pregnancy prevention? Lots of teenagers "know" in their heads about pregnancy prevention but they follow their fleshly desires instead. Teenagers also have "it can't happen to me" and "I'm indestructible" attitudes that can override teachings.

point is - Sarah Palin preached of abstinence, strong education & moral, principles & values, and God....... and her family doesn't even follow along with her "strong" belief.

How do I know? because Sarah Palin's all about abstinence and anti-sex education.... one can logically conclude that her own kids never knew or knew very very little about pregnancy prevention and the risk of sex. This is what happens when you follow your "fleshly desire" without knowing the risk of it.

This is a huge embarrassment for Sarah Palin.

You might want to go back and watch the videos of some of her speeches and her interviews.

And, given all but the first quote you posted, the rest are absolutely true. The support for such has already been documented. And, when I mentioned quotes, I was not referring to things said about Palin by others. I was referring to the words coming from Palin's mouth directly.
