This a Scary Thought

When I came across this story it really reminded me of the young man that posted here not long ago stating he ODed on pills.

I sure hope he is ok.

if you read the link in my signature, you will see that 5.7 million american adults or 2.6 percent of the population aged 18 and older suffer from bipolar. it's entirely possible that this individual's manic and/or depressive symptoms were not adequately addressed through the correct mood stabilizer and/or antipsychotic, that he was a rapid cycler (meaning that his moods changed on a day-to-day, 24 hour or hourly basis), that he did not take his meds regularly and/or that he had a comorbid diagnosis of ptsd and/or alcohol or drug abuse. it's also possible that he could have been suffering from a severe manic episode which caused psychosis. (when i suffered my last severe manic/psychotic episode, i heard voices which told me to injest an entire bottle of tylenol.) whatever the case may be, this is truly sad and unfortunate. :( i know from personal experience that living with bipolar can be h*ll on earth and can send you on a constant roller coaster ride of emotions. i'm sure this person felt the same way. it's a shame he had to lose his life because of it. :( bipolar is an illness i wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy.

sorry about that, babyblue. i accidentally hit the "submit reply" button before I was ready to post my message. i'm also only typing with one hand (my right hand), so that is also having a negative effect on my ability to send complete posts.

LOL its ok. Hope the hand is better soon.

So why would did he put it on the web, via web camera. Did he do it. Hoping some one would stop him?
Or rescue him?

I'm trying to understand.

unfortunately, no one will ever know. people who want to commit suicide are crying out for help. i know that sounds like a chiche, but it's true. people who commit suicide really want to be stopped and don't want to take desperate measures to end their lives. then again, it's also possible that he was suicidal due to severe depression or a psychotic manic episode and the voices inside his head told him to kill himself. i know when i was suicidal 2 years ago and my voices were telling me to injest a bottle of tylenol, i called one of my sisters on the phone at 4:30 in the morning insisting that the media was after me and wanted me killed. (i know it sounds strange, but it's true.)

He had actual people online telling him to do it! Not just voices in his head. It is sickening.

Authorities say some who were watching egged Biggs on, some said they didn't believe he would do it, others messaged in horror as they realized this was no joke

very scary indeed. but then again (not pointing fingers here) some public suicides have been ways to make oneself a martyr rather than a desperate attempt to alleviate the pain from depression or to end one's life.

Public suicides are not new, but in which medium was used - the Internet - was new.

if he had a severe manic episode, it's also possible that he had delusions of granduer (which is one of the many symptoms of mania) which convinced him to stage his suicide over the internet.

That is entirely possible, but unfortunately no one will know as the one person who can answer that question is no longer available.

unfortunately. stories like this break my heart because i know from personal experience how awful bipolar can be. :(

the only other way this person's parents can find out the cause of death is to conduct an autopsy which would help determine if he had any mood stabilizers and/or antipsychotics in his bloodstream.
