PETA Wants Higher Insurance for Meat Eaters

I was JUST thinking the same!

First time I heard about PETA, I thought "Oh how nice! An organization fighting for the animals and trying to show how horrible slaughterhouses can be."
Second time I heard about PETA, I thought "Oh wait, they want to eliminate ALL slaughterhouses? Maybe that's a bit overboard."
Now.... at this point, I really think they are spewing out nonsense for attention. I wonder about the numbers of members in their organization...I wouldn't be surprised if it's declining!

To be fair, I think that just about every vegan wants to exist in a world that has no need for slaughterhouses. However, those of us that are in touch with that very same world, know that it will never happen. I recycle, but that doesn't stop my neighbor from throwing his plastic bottles right into the trash. My choice (both to recycle and to be a vegan) may have a positive impact on the things I believe in, but one person (or a million) will not just make the world decide to pick up and change a since-humans-existed habit: humans eating animals.

I'm also vegan and I'm for Animal rights but I'm not that keen on PETA. They lost me when they took those dogs out of no kill rescue centres and killed them. I have other reasons for not liking them besides since they seem to put people off animal rights. Especially links to ALF and the way they encourage people to throw things at people wearing fur coats. That's not going to perswade anyone to change their ways.

However, it would be nice if people DID give up meat, dairy and eggs. But like Aleser said I don't expect it to happen any time soon.

People can promote a meat free diet though. If nobody did this I wouldn't be vegan. I wish people had promoted a vegan diet for me a lot sooner. Yes it was my choice to eat meat but I wasn't making an informed choice. So I'm glad someone eventually enlightened me.

I cooked two large T Bone steaks for dinner. Mmmm good they were med rare.

We chowed down on them along with a baked potatoe and a garden salad.

Meat it part of the food pyramid. I will not deny my body or my family of much needed protein.

:laugh2:

Seriously, I hear you. I'm not much for steak, but I do eat meat and will continue to do so. We are omnivores for a reason.

Yup! Our canines proves that we are meat eaters.

Variety is what is important in our diet.

I hate to see what PETA. Thinks of the people that are on the Akteins diet (spell check much needed LOL).

A well balanced diet contains sources of protein and calcium- which come from dairy and meat, as well as a million other equally rich sources.

Test any average joe on the street, vegetarian or not, and you will probably find them deficient in at least three things. It's not about what you can eat, it's about how you balance it, and on the american diet of takeout and microwave meals, there is no balance to be found- even among 'healthy' meet eaters.

well said.

High insurance for meat eaters? How about junk foods?

I am meat eater... I need meat to strength my body... good protein and iron...

oooo! Now I know what I'll have my first night at my new Apt. I'm bringing mustard and A1 steak sauce too. *lick* I'll have either mashed or roasted potato with it too.

Good point there, Liebling. We should have higher insurance for junk food.
