that's right! that's precisely the case in Mexico City. It's surrounded by mountains on all side... which is why the air is so badly polluted (nearly zero wind zone). But if CA's having a windy day.... the people on other side of the mountain will be shit out of luck!

thats the only reason really that California suffers these massive wildfires... the Santa Ana winds are just ferocious at times. Makes it almost impossible to stop.

yup.... yup..... those are called firestorms. It's fueled by wind. Perhaps this is a wake-up call for government to step up and start modernizing their ancient forest fire fighting techniques and equipment.

It never helps of course when asshole douchebags set these fires on purpose for their own amusement when the winds come around. The fires that engulfed california last year (or 2 years back, cant remember) were started by lightning/the weather etc but then people started jumping on the bandwagon and lighting fires themselves. I think half those fires were arson-related, accidental or on purpose. Its just unfortunate conditions here are just perfectly ripe for that for arsonists advanatges.
