Southern Calfornia Shake Out!

yes, the trench sewen around the world is basically the underwater fault lines which are the tetonic plates move around. The planet Earth is not a solid ground, everything moves a few millmieters to inches a year. There are other areas that aren't in the ring of fire that do get earthquake and volcanoes like in eastern Europe region and parts of west Africa, etc.

That what I learned it from Earth Science class in freshman years. It's very interesting to knowledge about earthquake and volcano. I never feel the earthquake in my state. My husband told me he felt the quake in early morning last April. I was sleep that time. I never feel it. In 2002, I was sleeping at night. My mom told me. She felt it's shake. It's very rare. I never feel the quake. You're right about earthquake can be everywhere in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia and South America and North America.

Have you ever experience with earthquake and volcano in your state? I just wonder. I notice in California always have an earthquake sometime. Is that because of more people and pressure under ground?

No kidding! My second/third grade class and I had to do this drill.

Ahh, I see that sucks you never felt an earthquake but you will someday, one day.

I have felt earthquakes about 5 times in my lifetime...mostly in California. Once here in Seattle, WA which was a big quake and other big one in California back in 1989. It is really scary experience at first, but after a few quakes....I just get used to it.

Yeah! I am sure I would be freak out when I feel the shake. It scare me as hell. LoL How about in Washington have a volcano at Mt. Hood? Or Mt. Rainier ? I am not sure about spelling correct.

I never know about drill for earthquakes in school. I learned the tornado and fire drill at school.

Lol, I never had tornado drills before. :P

Yeah, I have seen Mt. St. Helens that erupted back in 2004. It was just a steam eruption, nothing too serious. There are 5 volcanoes in Washington state, though. Mt. Helens, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker, Mt. Adams and Crystal mountain.

Not really, it's part of fault in earth that cause quake.

I had been suffered from major earthquake in 1994, known as Northridge earthquake.

That's interesting! LoL Every states are different. Yeah, in Washington is beautiful mountains. I never go there before. Hawaii have a volcano too. I was aware in the world is crazy. It's scared. The Earth is an eldest!!!!

Yeah, we live on a living planet yet we destroy it which is really sad. :(

I've felt plenty of earthquakes growing up in California. The strongest I've felt was 5.4 and epicenter is located about 30 miles away. I moved to Texas the year before the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake that damaged heavily on many areas and was measured 6.9.

The most other earthquakes are felt pretty small ones, the smallest earthquakes that are often felt are around 3.0 to 4.0. Below 3.0 is too small to feel or noticed by humans.

It's good to have earthquake drill which took place in South California to educate people and to be prepared for anything when it hit. Earthquake occurs without warning unlike hurricane, tornado comes with warning, earthquakes don't. :)

Uhhh..no..it is cuz of the fault lines running thru CA especially the San Andreas fault.

Never mind...Pinky's question has been answered

it's called Pacific Ring of Fire. The black lines represent huge tectonic plates together.
