On census, they use Black or African American, it means you and Obama are Black or African American.

Since you like to talk so much about Obama being assassinated (and you sound like you want him assassinated) I should report you to Homeland Security and the FBI.
 
I was always under the impression that "African-American" was the appropriate term to use for "blacks." Sorry if that sounds too PC, but it's what I was taught.

Stormfront forum need to be investigate and shut down by FBI because it could contains any threat or discuss about assassination against Obama.

Any racist or hate speech against racial aren't covered by 1st Amendment.

My husband doesnt like the term "African-American" and considers himself to be American black. In the black culture, there is a big difference between those two terms. Just like in the Deaf community, deaf and Deaf are different.

More apt to report him to the Secret Service. Sad to see this guy wants to have someone from his own race assassinated.

Probably is jealous that Obama is the first American black President and he isn't.

Shoot, my hubby is in Philly until Tuesday so I cant ask him. I will see if I can remember when he explained it to me...he said that he feels no relations with Africa and the culture there so he doesnt feel right calling himself African-American when he has no ties to Africa. Something like that...he asked me if I consider myself Eurpean-American and I said no...and he said "There you go!"

Thanks for the explanation, Shel. :) That makes perfect sense and I can understand why your husband feels the way he does.
 
I'd say one of the reasons that there are so many hate groups in the U.S. is the extreme stratification in our society. That, and the fact the the "Land of Opportunity" is far from what the label would imply for many residents of this nation. When opportunity is denied from societal stratification, it is natural that those that are being denied will attempt to turn it on others that they see at a lower level of stratification. Conflict Theory and power differential at it's best.

#mmm, sorry shell thats one thing thats always confused me, whats the significance of the origin of your(or their) colour? who cares?
and as for he exapmpke of the deaf/Deaf, then thats out petty failing, and not a good example.

I couldn't agree more. After all, deaf is deaf regardless of whether it's "small d" deaf or "big D" Deaf.

It is all about cultural awareness. Every culture has their own ways and way of defining themselves. I dont question nor criticize it but rather respect it. There are worse problems in life than to worry about it.

One poster asked not to be referred as African American so all we should do is respect that.
