Why do you think, when politics is a topic of a conversation, Everyone can get so heated?

The title of the thread says it all.

The more I think about it, It is how politics is almost like a borderline religion with a lot of us.

Discuss.

Note: Please do not engage into any flame war or anything such of that nature.

Thank You. :)

:hmm: I do not know. I will seek Master Oogway for some wisdom.

short answer: because people care about where they live and how theyre allowed to live. Certain policies implemented by different political groups can influence that greatly for the good or bad.

long answer: well im out of time, so ill respond later i suppose.

Simply said, it's because everyone wants their answer to be the one.

This is why I totally stay out of politics and religion. ;)

Are ye sure ye are a Scot lassie?
I hardly read political threads any more, rather amazing I do admit, heh heh. I think everyone wants to be heard as the most important stitch in the quilt, but ach...

Jolie,

I appreciate that you brought this issue up. I can see the heat in some threads myself after Obama was elected.

I, myself don't understand why some of ADers don't show their respect when some ADers show their share of articles or news online they pasted in their posts -- they criticize and make fun of or tell others that they are paranoid or what ever. I would like to know why is that ? Isn't this AD supposed to be for everyone who participated in this AD to be part of a " family " in deaf community ? Aren't we seein' an equal in despite of our differences due to our point of views, opinions, and such ?

I would like to see some ADers to discuss the issues instead of finger pointin' to some ADers and say that they are uninformed without sharin' articles with links. Why can't they just let others to READ and LEARN from the articles or news online with links ? If, they say somethin' about articles or news online that they disagree - then, that would be fine with me. It's better than sayin' somethin' about this person ( ADer ) that he/or she don't know nothin' or say that he/or she isn't that smart ( dumb ) - like one of the ADers called me a " dumb " in another thread. Gee -- that was uncalled for.

I would love to share some articles with them and have them to tell me what they think of the articles or news online that I brought up with some links.

Thanks for creatin' this thread, Jolie! :)

Well once I read the thread, I thought I can speak out my opinion, but someone tend to jump on my post and then debating till finally they became rude to me. :(

Because politics involve some laws getting passed in which people dont get certain rights to things. People want to live their lives as see fit but if others dont agree with their views and pass a law to ban that view or right, of course people are gonna be pissed off.

You're right, It depends on which topic is related to the politics. However, I must say, There are a lot of broadband topics in politics that are heated because it does apply to all walks of life that are presented to us in one way or another. So, My question is - As heated as it gets when each person clash their opinions on whatever topic it is, Why would it get heated when it also can get so far?

Thanks for expressing your feelings about this, Maria.

To clear this up, I am not specifically talking about how members in AllDeaf are like this. I am talking about Why, What, When, Where and Who gets the gist of every political conversation that can result into some such pettiness and ugliness? Is it because the representation of the meaning itself is what people value the most; thus why the result of the clashes?

By the way, Political Conversations has always been heated way before Obama was chosen to be our presidents. It always has and it always will continue to be like this for many years to come. It will continue to be heated for the next presidents, so and on.

Like my mom taught us while we were growing up...3 topics not to bring up at the dinner table; Religion, Abortion, and Politics.

My dad always said that religion, money and politics shouldn't be dicussed in polite company - especially not money!

That's nice to know that your family know how to take control of the conservation manners.

My family don't and will just jump out in whatever comes out to talk about.

Mum's a Scot and Dad's a French but I must admit I lean towards the French side ... I think you know what I meant! :giggle:

That is, indeed, a very wise advice.

I think with this, It should be kept to a moderation but then, not everybody would agree though.

Well, we arent at the dinner table when we are on AD, arent we?

You know how my mom came to that conclusion? Growing up with her dad yelling and arguing about those 3 subjects at the dinner table causing dinnertime to be stressful several times.
