netrox,

I don't see any text in your message. Can you explain? Thanks!

Thanks for the description, Bott. :)

I'm not sure what to think of this either...

On the one hand, when I think about all of the negative ads McCain has been responsible for (Obama has been negative too, but not to the same extent), I can see the humor in this.

On the other hand, when I think about the reality of what it's like to be robbed and beaten, it no longer seems funny to me.

:dunno:

If you don't know what it means, a woman who volunteered for McCain campaign a few days ago filed a report to police saying she was mugged by a "black man" and her face was carved with "B" because she's a McCain supporter. There was a picture of her with a "scar" of B but it was reversed.

Here's the pic of her claiming she was mugged by a black man (and later claimed she was raped):

The media had a field day - Fox news and Drudge Report created headlines saying "McCain supporter Mutilation by Obama supporter!" as a way to scare undecided voters into voting for McCain because Obama supporters are dangerous and will stab anyone who don't agree with Obama!

Two days later, the woman admitted lying. Police found no evidence. Now, she's being charged for filing false report and is now in a mental institution.

The thing is she was never robbed. She LIED!

I know that. In fact, several news reports said Ashley Todd suffers from (in their words) "mental problems." I sincerely hope she gets the help she needs...

What else would you expect from the right wing media? Same old yadda yadda.

Nope, Fox denounced it after ascertaining the full information. Yes, the woman needs help.

But too late...

Earlier today, John Moody, executive vice president at Fox News, commented on his blog there that "this incident could become a watershed event in the 11 days before the election. If Ms. Todd's allegations are proven accurate, some voters may revisit their support for Senator Obama, not because they are racists (with due respect to Rep. John Murtha), but because they suddenly feel they do not know enough about the Democratic nominee.

"If the incident turns out to be a hoax, Senator McCain's quest for the presidency is over, forever linked to race-baiting."

Personally, I think they should have all held off until they had more proof. The whole story smelled fishy to me from the get go. That's why I never posted it.

As soon as I saw the photo, I knew it was a hoax. It's the same mistake that others have done. They try to carve a word or letter on their bodies by using a mirror. Result--backwards lettering.

If she was smart she would have had her fake assailant carve an "O" for Obama, then it wouldn't be backwards. Duh!

Even if it had been true, who would change their vote as a result of some crazed person's actions? That's weird. I don't support Obama but I would never believe that he sent goons out to attack McCain supporters.

Oh have mercy!
This is Absolutely crazy.

If the story of this woman's mentality is at stake is true. Then she needs help.

Reba,

As someone who has bipolar, I wish you would refrain from using the word "crazed" to describe Ashley Todd's behavior (since it means "insane" or "demented") Ashley Todd is *not* crazed. She's a person who happens to suffer from serious mental illness. Hope you understand where I'm coming from. :)

I don't know. Falling for the Tawana Brawley hoax didn't seem to hurt Al Sharpton.

A troubling story about Al Sharpton. - By William Saletan, Ben Jacobs, and Avi Zenilman - Slate Magazine

Oh, that's right; he's not a Republican.

Barack Obama is NOT Al Sharpton and you need to stop drawing parallels between both.

Regardless, the woman involved in this incident has been caught. They need to look behind the scenes because I think she is a "patsy" that took the fall for someone higher up.

I wasn't referring to her specifically but anyone who, as an individual, does something "crazy", not in any clinical sense but with any bizarre, weird, illogical behavior. Some people who do "crazy" behaviors don't have any mental illness.

I'm sorry if that phrase offended you. I didn't mean for it be directed at people with bipolar conditions.
