I doubt it. This was in Us Magazine. Not exactly a stand up source in my opinion. If you read the article, it sounds like the kid had food allergies and the symptoms of which were autism-like. I would like to see more data on this before I make a final determination. I'm not sure I can believe there's a cure for autism just yet. :hmm:

Autism is a brain difference, not an illness that can be cured. If a child suddenly develops autistic like symptoms, they do not have autism. They most likely have an underlying food allergy that is slowly poisioning them (that is why her child got better on a diet!) or an adverse reaction to a vaccine. Neither of those things are autism. They are many, many children who have true autism who never received a single dose of vaccine. It is a nontypical brain pattern, that as seen by the majority as bad and in need of a cure. It is gentic and is often passed from generation to generation. People who were merely "weird" and "geeks" in the past are now labeled as autistic. That is why there are autism "clusters" in the silicon valley in Seattle, where the Microsoft headquarters are. The Nerds are breeding and making new nerds, but the youngest are labeled as autistic.

I can't say for the future, but right now, ESPECIALLY the McCarthy way, hell no. I mean, wheat and dairy free diet "recovered" his autism?

If only it were that simple! "Eat your protein or else you'll have a Rain Man day."

I agree with you that this child probably had multiple food sensitivities that produced autism like symptoms and that is why changing his diet "cured" him. However, I don't think autism itself can be cured by diet. It is a developmental disorder of unknown cause and cannot be cured at this time. However, I believe with appropriate therapies children with autism can improve dramatically. In my opinion, Jenny McCarthy is doing a grave disservice to those people who have autistic children by claiming there is a cure when there isn't one.
 
While there is no known cure for autism, some aspects of the condition are treatable. For example, people with autism can make progress if they receive appropriate individual attention. Preschool children also show good progress when they receive intensive, individualized behavioral intervention. In addition, symptoms associated with autism can be treated by limited pharmacological means.

:gpost: This is true. I don't support the idea that autism is caused by food allergies and sensitivities. Although, I would like either Jillio or Jolie to weigh in on this. I'm willing to being wrong in my assumption. But on the whole, I totally agree with what you said!

This is what I've known; sadly for a lotta years with nothing really promising on the horizon...

Oh, I wish it was THAT simple! If it was that simple, just think about how many doors would be open with a lot of possibilities.

There are a lot of various theories as to what causes autism. You're correct, Autism is NOT caused by food allergies or sensitivities. The latest theory is - It is also possible that it is related to the genes. It is said that irregular segments of genetic code that children with autism may have been inherited. There is no one single trigger that identifies as a cause for autism.

Having a change of taking proper diet may help treat in some aspects for some autistic people. What works for one does not always work for others. It can be treated to a degree with early intervention, ABA, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, so and on. The food alone is not going to cure autism.

As for Jenny McCarthy - uh... enough said.

Why the heck celebs think they have a pulse on various things like this is beyond me. We need people to present reliable information regarding developmental disorders like autism spectrum disorders. It makes me mad that there is now the proclamation that their is a "cure" for autism when we know thieir isn't one......yet. :roll:

I know. Sure, There are celebrities that does a lot of noble cause but in this case with Jenny McCarthy's situation - It may have helped her son in a way but that does not mean it is an automatic cure for others. That alone is giving a false hope for many other parents with children who have autism.

If there were a cure, I would want to double check into it and to make sure it is 100% efficient. Also, I would rely on the facts that are presented or pinpointed to this or that.

If the chelations, diets and among other things were the ACTUAL cure, That'd be great! Unfortunately, like I said, it may work for one but doesn't work for others.

Exactly. I'm concerned because she said her son has/had autism. I wonder if he really did. I'm really thinking the child had multiple food sensitivities that presented with autism like symptoms, and that's the reason the diet approach worked for her son. In this case, she didn't cure autism because the kid didn't have autism. The symptoms abated because she corrected the child's food sensitivies, so yes, it worked for her son. It also might work for others if they also had food sensitivities. But, autism? No.
 
The idea of "cures" make me cringe as while my mum was suffering from cancer there were loads of "cures" on the horizon which gave us false hope. It's like being on an emotional rollercoster when you are told your mum hs cancer one minute, then she's 'cured', then it's come back, then she's 'cured' again, and finally she's dead. I'd much rather have just dealt with her having cancer and got used to it.

Children can be helped to deal with Autism with various teatments. (avoiding medicine and aversion therapy.)
 
There has not been any evidence that MMR vaccines are responsible for even one case of autism. Nor is there any evidence that supports a cure for autism. I find this woman's claims to be irresponsible. She is preying on parents that are looking for any glimmer of hope that their child will be cured.
 
To have hope is better than having none.


I believe that autism is created by energy inside you, it's not the brain activity or an illness. It's the energy that you feel inside you that alters your behavior, I know because I have studied Autism through Head Start, Disability programs, and meeting the families.

Oddly, I am the most comfortable that an Autism kid would talk to, know this, not ALL would talk to a stranger, but I am no stranger. I'm a wolf in this world.

You can believe anything you choose to believe, but scientific evidence does not, in any way support that belief any more than it supports someone believing that autism is caused by alien abduction.

One can maintain hope for improvement without being deluded into hoping for a cure that is not available. For hope to be beneficial, it has to be based on reality.
