Attention Whores?

Know what another sign of being an attention whore is?

Using multiple accounts to get your point across. That means... say something. Then sign on under a different name to say the same thing so that people think that more than one person agrees on the same idea.

... like some people in this thread. :type:

Couldn't you have PMed them instead of calling them out like this? There is a stigma attached to mental illness and though its a shame, it exists. That person obviously didn't feel comfortable posting under their existing acct for their own reasons. This doesn't make them an attention whore.

Let's get back to the topic of attention whore and move away from bipolar disorder. We already have a bipolar disorder thread somewhere else in AllDeaf. :thumb:

Vampy,

If you read carefully, "Anomymous" doesn't have the same writing style as OB or myself.

As for using multiple accounts, it wasn't me because I didn't know ADers could do that. :dunno:

Besides, why would someone go through the trouble of starting a new account just to write a single post?

You're right. I didn't write that post.

Liebling,

Interesting quiz! :)

Here are my results:

You Are An Attention Seeker

You're only human, so you can't help but want a little attention every now and then.
You love the spotlight, but only when it's well deserved. You'd hate to be known for the wrong thing.
And you also don't mind sharing the spotlight. You can easily give someone else credit or a complement.
You know there's enough attention to go around, and it makes you happy when your friends shine.

You come across as: Friendly and interesting

People may wrongly think you're: A little more modest than you actually are!

**Everything about this is correct except for the fact that I can't stand to be in the spotlight. :hmm:

Interesting thread...

I notice some people confuse Attention Whores with ADD, ADHD or Bipolar.

I hope this quiz will helps to find yourself what it is really about.

Blogthings - Are You An Attention Whore?

You Don't Need Extra Attention

You're perfectly happy with who you are, and you don't need attention to feel good about yourself.

You prefer to let your actions and accomplishments speak for themselves.

Working hard to get people to like you is your idea of a nightmare.

You've got a lot going on, and anyone with half a brain will notice that on their own!

You come across as: Confident and serious

People may wrongly think you're: Stuck up and shy

Welcome, Hear Again. :) It´s good that you know what you really are... If you accept what you are then stick it what you are... or change if you really want to...

Yes I find those quiz interesting... Truth is I´m a friendly and good listener person - like to give advice/help them but quiz comes surprise that I´m confident and serious person... The people may wrongly think that I´m stuck up and shy... It could be true...:hmm:

I´m surprise that Victoria and David Beckham are not on the list because they are well known as Attention Whores. :hmm:

When I was in high school, I joined all kinds of extra-curricular activities such as the school newspaper, Forensics speech club (oratory category), Debate, advanced choir and band. Also, during my junior year I took a public speaking class in which I always volunteered to be the first speaker in class. I've changed alot since then. Now I don't like public speaking as much as I used to. I also don't like unecessary attention because it embarrasses me. Funny how people change over the years...

I don't mind listening to people every once in a while but every single day? I just can't do it. Also, as much as I'd like to brighten up someone's day, they have to make the effort to do it themselves. This means changing their perception of things, trying breathing exercises or meditation and basically unlearning the things that cause them to be negative in the first place.
ok, that's little better. :)

I am Bipolar, and have ADD, PTSD, and GAD. I take medication and I function very well on my medications, and I am very med-compliant. I take Seroquel, Wellbutrin, and Xanax. I am currently not on any ADD medication because I am not in school nor am I working, because I am taking a break from college to get my physical health problems taken care of.

With my medications, I am able to function, and I have so much more self-control than I ever did without medication. I am able to stay calm, I hardly have episodes (manias/depressions). I get depressed sometimes, but it is pretty mild most of the time. I've been able to stay out of the psych ward, and I see my shrink once a month.

I should be in therapy, but I need to find a therapist that signs. I don't feel comfortable with a therapist that doesn't sign because then I have to have an interpreter there, and I worry that the interpreter will judge me or will break the confidentiality. I don't trust interpreters in this kind of situation. It feels weird. I want to look into DBT (Dialectal Behavioral Therapy) to help me with my PTSD and GAD. My PTSD and GAD are what are giving me the most trouble lately. CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) doesn't really help me.

But overall, I do pretty well on my medications.

I don't like all the news and gossips about people like Britney Spears. I feel bad for Britney. I hope she gets help and get on medication and get back in control of her life so that she can get her children back. Same for other celebrities and other people struggling with Bipolar Disorder.

Bipolar disorder is not a fun illness, and it can cause you to get completely out of control without medication. You can do things you will regret later. But with medication and therapy, you can get back in control and you can do really well, and function really well. You have to maintain control, through medication and therapy and being mindful of what you do.

So please don't judge people with Bipolar Disorder.

Thank you.

Hey, not all are like you. I know a few who's Bipolar, but refuse to admit and is doing great with the job and school. You see, it's the confidence and courage that people have to live the life with some side effects. You'll be fine, just don't get emotional that's all. Yes I know Bipolar, I've lived with few as a roommate. One out of few roommates went crazy on me because not only he is bipolar, he has multiple personalities. Which is wacky and always changing what he says.

From what you said, I know you'll pull through and you'll be living your life before you know it. Just remind yourself, "This, too, shall pass." Also with what you have right now, embrace it and enjoy it, the positive side of life I meant, not the negative.

Hey Vampy, you made this post and it's getting big and big, who's the one that's grabbing all the attention, WHORE. MUHAHAHAHAHAHA.

That isn't always the case.

Even though if we were to tell these "attention whores" to take a hike, they will still continue to do it with other people. That's the difference. The point is, they want the attention, it doesn't matter who it is when they want the attention from.
sorry for the confusion, I was following my #20 post with your quote ... no you're correct, isn't always the case because the person could go to another. but my point was if this person is complaining how her/his friend is an attention whore ... it is because of her/him too.

however if enough people knew to not help attention whores by being there for them all the time, it's more likely it'll be always the case - less attention whores.

If it's an illness that cannot be helped, then she shouldn't even have kids in the first place.

If I knew you had an illness that would put my children at risk, I wouldn't let you around my kids or do anything that would lead you to harm yourself or harm my kids.
 :barf:  :thumbd:  :gossip: :dunno2: :ugh3: :hyper: :rl: :scatter: :repost: :Owned: :werd: :drunk:

what part didn't you get of jillo's post? ... It is not something they willfully do...?

from dictionary.com, willfully means

1. deliberate, voluntary, or intentional: The coroner ruled the death willful murder.

2. unreasonably stubborn or headstrong; self-willed
so since jillio included the 'not'...means none of above. NONE.

by the way, with your beating yourself bloody to death avatar along with "hell" in your location ever since you joined this forum does not make you an attention whore... no?

 :hmm:

superb posts oceanbreeze, hear again, and mrs. bucket - thank you! you all sure have the patience I don't have.
There are many people who are stable and are doing well, and I wish more of this is seen. It might make people stop and think a little more. At least, I can hope.
yes, but unfortunately, people won't really know they are bipolars when they are medicated. not many people would tell others that they are on medication. so it's hard to even out that stereotype especially when we live on a same planet with a lot of narrow-minded people out there too.

imdeafsowhat,

If the friends you know are doing well in employment and school without medication, that's great. However, I would strongly encourage them to see a psychiatrist to begin treatment with mood stabilizers and/or antipsychotics. This is because bipolar tends to become progressively worse as one ages -- especially when a person is unmedicated. In other words, with each manic and depressive episode, they become more pronounced and increase in frequency throughout a person's lifetime (This is why medication is required.). Just thought I'd offer this friendly advice from someone who has first-hand experience with bipolar.

ha of course.. of course. you do what you like to do. you don't like to be wrong, accept and admit and now understand that "attention whores" ARE part of some illnesses such as bipolar.

what a contradiction.

freckles,

I don't understand the sentence in bold. Could you explain? Thanks! :)

As I have advised them, their answer is, "I'M NOT WEAK." Tsk. Brave people.

I'm sorry freckles, but I disagree with the bolded text. People with bipolar aren't "attention whores." As I mentioned in a previous post, their extreme behavior is caused by a chemical imbalance and is something they can't control.

I'm not an "attention whore." I'm a person who happens to have bipolar.

Hope you understand my point. :)

As I have adviced them, their answer is, "I'M NOT WEAK." Tsk. Brave people.

Brave people, but IMO not smart. Taking medication is *not* a sign of weakness. It is a sign of acceptance and a willingness to take responsibility for one's illness.
