Shel, I just read about McDonald's. OMG! I am so glad that you and Nathan are okay!
The rally was wonderful. As you can see from the pic, I was able to get up fairly close, and was actually able to squeeze my way up to shake his hand as he was leaving! Being 5' tall and weighing 100lbs. was an advantage this time!
He covered all points...from the economy to the war to health care to education. The education portion of his speech went over very well, given that this is a college town and there were several professors and students there. The financial aid officer from my university managed to get on the court house steps right behind him as he was speaking! (I was jealous!) He didn't really say anything new...just reinterated what he has been saying in debates and interviews...but that man is a wonderful orator. He really knows how to work a crowd, and it seems that he is talking to you directly. Good eye contact with the audience, and very relaxed and natural.
The scary thing was the sharp shooters on the roof behind us, and all the Secret Service guys milling through the crowd. Had to go through a metal detector to got into the street where the courthouse was, and if you had a cell phone or a camera it had to be turned on so they could make sure it was functioning and not some kind of explosive.
This was an experience I will remember and treasure all of my life. If any on you have the opportunity to see him, I would certainly encourage you to go.
BTW....there were 4 terps!
