A koala rests in a tree at Sydney Wildlife World September 26, 2008. The Australian Koala Fundation is celebrating "Save the Koala" day on September 26 in an attempt to raise funds to save the koala's environment.

Why save koalas?

I agree Koalas are cute. Do they have any useful function?

Koala, have you heard about Lucky the Koala from Canberra?

Depends which one, cos there are two koalas named Lucky after their ordeal. One in the bushfire and other Lucky got hit by a car. Both koalas are in Canberra. Poor things.. I am glad they survived.

The one whoo survived in the bushfire -- she is now back in the wild.

read other report:

Koalas face additional threats such as road death, dog attack, disease and bushfire. From a national population of around 100,000 koalas, roughly 4000 are killed by dogs and cars each year. In the 1920s approximately 3 million koalas were shot for their fur.

Today the koala is a protected species but its habitat is not protected.

I will send "Save the Koala" report to my sister who own business soon. she had been visited Australia last several years and loved it. I think that She would donate fund money to Australian Koala Foundation.

Yes, I have seen them and close to them but I do not allow to touch them... but respect and leave them alone... We were bit disappointed because we want to touch or carry them...

I have seen them in wood when we were at picnic... with plenty of red small parrots on us... on our head, shoulders, etc... :giggle:
