Continental will charge $15 to check first bag. The fee applies to ticket purchased starting today for travel on October 7 or later. Because the fee would help offset high fuel costs.

Some airlines have charged to check first bag now.

Fees fly with you.

No Fees at first bag - AirTran, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, and Southwest


That s suck! So with the price of oil and fuel falling, just exactly how long can these companies get away with raising prices and blaming fuel costs?

I sure hope the execs and other people at the corporate headquarters have had to take the same pay andbenefit cuts as those at the airport and in the air.

I believe that almost travelers carry small or medium travel bag inside airlines that avoid to pay fee at first bag.
 
It's all their own fault.

First, they reduce the number of planes that they use. This causes 30% of their passengers to get bumped.

Now, they expect their customers to pay more just for having luggage. :roll:
 
I thought another airliner charges $25?

I do understand: the airline industry is nickle and dime-ing the people. A suitcase does not alter the amount of fuel used for an entire flight.

every weight alters the MPG. That's why they spend millions on developing lightweight material for racing vehicles and airplane. Yes you're right in a way that "a" suitcase (as in 1) does not change anything but add in hundred of them... yea it changes a big deal - which is why airline has the maximum weight allowed for each suitcase (but they charge fee for overweight suitcase).

Pilots were pressured by airlines to reduce amount of reserve fuel and believe me - they were not happy at all for safety reason.

An entire jet plane's MPG is altered by weight of its cargo. DUH!

I paid a ticket price to board the plane. The ticket price covered all. No? Oh! A surcharge? I thought ticket price covers. No? Ticket price what for, then? Oh! Science talk will justify it?

I pay ticket price . . . it covers all. If not, then what's the ticket price for?

blame the fluctuating economy. sometimes surcharges are mandated. sometimes not. with 9/11 wound, highly volatile fuel cost, and especially current events (Afghanistan, Iraq, Hurricanes)... we're in shithole.

But hey... at least you get to fly to your destination. It's better than out-of-business airline industry, right? The time will come when airline industry will clean up their acts and find what's bleeding their money

The economy can fluctuate all it wants. The ticket price should reflect the price of everything (self, luggage, and that Coke). Why a "surcharge"? Airliners trying to manipulate so that THEY can save a few bucks at consumers' expense?
 
I guess I'll find airline that don't charge for suitcase! I'll rather to have 15 bucks for something else! :roll: OR ride on Amtrak, I don't care cuz it's fun on the train! :giggle:
