How To Address?

jclarke, they did provide terps but we had to kick them off the ship on second day. for mistreating us.

byrdie, why does it matters? .. all excurisons are under US contract; we paid them.

Well, if it's out of america, I would say, bummer.

If it's in America. You can pretty much do whatever you want. Like suing them, but other than that, out of country laws are different.

In Japan, deaf cannot drive. Probably can't get a job either. They considered us as a disgrace to the people.

Cite your sources.

Hearing people are stupid when it comes to disabilities and such.. if you're not "normal" to most hearies you're weird or disabled.. so i say SUE!
teach them what deaf people are and are not.
its not sticky situation...they need to learn deaf people aren't aliens... i'd sue!

Deaf aliens everywhere protest! We don't even have ears!

I want to slap those smug faces off for having treated you like that, freckles... I feel your pain, I really do. My first reaction was to tell you to lawyer up and hope for a full refund and an apology, but don't know the best thing to do. ADA? Contact organizations? Contact Better Business Bureau to file the complaint?

If you do know the company/association where the terps are from (the ones who mistreated you and your guy), report them as well.

My family reunion took Caribbean cruise last two years. My older sister wanted to hire deaf interpreter for my young sister, cousin and me but cuiser director refused to pay for travel expense to interpreter. :(

jclarke, on the first day we requested them to be there at our dinner table and at a show, one of guys told us that we didn't need them. and there were a several times we called them to come up, they always 'missed the call' or 'didnt hear the knockings'. then the way he talked to us, telling us how better they are (just because he was in military before). then they eventually were advised by their agency to leave off the ship too.

~ SG, we should.. just that we have so much on plate right now and they're least important.

liza, thanks. I've been trying to contact NAD and see if they could help with writing the letter....I am not good at this - all wounded and boiled up to think rationally. oh and, I heard? ADA is down? ..no?

thanks everyone and some of you - read this again, this isn't about interpreters ...

Not necessairly.....

What I would suggest doing is writing a letter to the company of these excursions and mention to them the experience that you had to endure.

Chances are likely that they would respond and may compensate you for the trips due to the bad experience.

They may even offer you another free trip! It's been done before. :)

Also remember that when you are doing excursions to foreign countries like Jamaica, Dominican Republic--they don't have to follow the laws pertaining to the ADA as it isn't applicable to them.

Unless they were USVI and PR....

Thanks for the clairification

you're welcome...I guess.

byrde, looks like we are thinking the same thing...we're hoping for a make up...our first step. it wasn't a great one anyway. all the hurricanes must be thinking our ship is a fun toy to twirl with! but I'm having a hard time finding the right person to write to. I see there's an address on their own website but how do you know it's the right one to write to?

Well.....I would write a letter to the Director of Activities for the entire organization as well as the president of the company.

Good luck with this and let us know what happens.
