Do you have recovery? OS? IF do then use them and drop disc in the laptop then boot up from disc then you will see reformat/recovery.

1. Backup your important files and data to your external harddrive or cd burner

2. Make a backup window operating system recovery from the original first got it.

3. Make a complete wipe Drive Clean of All Its Sensitive data by using commercial or free wipe/erase data software. Wipe Sensitive data so it won't be detectable. Free software --- Darik's Boot and Nuke This is good for preventing from identity thief.

4. Partition your harddrive

5. Format your harddrive

6. Reinstall your Operating System or put in system recovery cd

I think that is all there is. I hope that'll help you. :hmm:

What is your laptop brand name? My is Hp Pavilion zv6000 with windows XP. I'll try to look up a place where you can get your system cd recovery for your laptop model if possible.

Presiro Compaq Widescreen Notebook - with Windows Vista Home preumium.

Ok. When you get home, please do look and post for the model number here so therefore I'll see what I can find for you.

Don't forget to look on the bottom of your laptop for :

* 1: Product Name
* 2: Serial Number
* 3: Product Number

Try press the F8 or F10 key while laptop is booting. They may bring up the menu with system restore or reformat options if laptop have separate partition with stored backup installation.

Some brands use different "F" key (function key) to bring up the menu. So provoke any F1-F12 keys to get it come up on screen.

Try Click Start , All Programs , System Recovery and then click PC Recovery Disc Creator if you have the software PC recovery on it.

If he is provided by the seller for the Administrative password to restore his laptop that'll be great. Otherwise if there is password protected and he do not know of it then it can't help. He has to ask the original seller for password to access it.

I will check it out when I get home.

I bought this laptop from the retail store, brand new in box. WTF.

Assume about him what? I am trying to help him out here if I can. He wanted some advice how to reformat his hard drive and have the operating system working again before he can sell his laptop. I told him the procedure above. Especially with sensitive data on his hard drive with normal formating which can be steal from thief. Therefore complete wipe sensitive data is a must.

Seller can be anyone or a retailer store.

Yeah -- I will give the details to you when I get home in an hour and half. The plan is I will have ALL my files backed up in an external hard drive and once it is all empty -- the OS and schitt needs to be reformatted and sell it like it's brand new again :lol:

Go back to the store where you got your laptop from, bring a proof of purchase paper works etc with you. Tell them that you didn't get any of the recovery CD or any of the CD you are supposed to have with your new laptop.

Hopefully you will get the recovery CD as it shouldn't supposed to be missing from the box.
