The unemployment rate in July 2008 is similar to 2001, 5.7% in Nov 2001 when US was in recession.

lol, don't have enough money to buy cute redesign iBook G3 or Power Mac G4, or upgrade to Mac OS X from Mac OS 9.

I´m glad that you posted that article about German unemployment rate because I do not feel like to post first to brag about drop from 13% to 7,0 % unemployment rates for past years...

Unemployment rate was 13,% drop to 7.7... ;) which is great... :ty: for post that article... then you can see yourself it´s not bad to drop from 13% to 7.7... Yes I know very few % go up but it is still not bad than 13%.

Do you know why the Germany unemployment was so high in the first place? Also, do you know what brought it down? I would have thought that Germany unemployment would have been much lower as it was my understanding that Europe have the low birth rates.

Today, I bought a book "Take This Job and Ship It" written by Senator Byron L. Dorgan (Democrat - South Dakota). He was complaining that the corporations were greedy so they shipped jobs overseas (especially China and the Asian countries) so they can pay much lower wages. Where are the jobs for the Americans? He made a good point there - if we don't have a job, how can we pay for products? I am not finished reading this book (I am on page 15).

Liebling, I'm sure that you don't know that USA had recession in 2001 when alot of job were lost due dot-com burst, 9/11 and others, it has nothing with beginning of Afghan war, 2008 is possibly into recession that similar to 2001 due high oil price, credit crisis, mortgage/real estate crisis and other reason since war time is more chance than supply/demand.

My father lost job in 2001, I hope it wouldn't happen in this year, however he was unemployed for about 6 month or so.

The birth rate of German citizens has been declining but the birth rate and immigration rate of people from the Middle East to Germany has been increasing. They are legal immigrants who go to Germany for work opportunities.

Germany will soon be facing a social services crisis as their population ages and retires. There won't be enough young German workers available to support the elderly retired workers.

In general, most of Europe is facing a native population decline while the non-European immigrants are increasing their population.

This is one result of the Zero-Population philosophy. Unless it is equally practiced all over the globe, it will cause a major shift in demographics.

Yup, China will have social issue due 1 child policy, population in 2050, just projection would be same as day as peak at 1.4 or 1.5 billion, I don't know if it's true but hard to predict.

Japan and Russia are experiencing population decline and low birth rate too.
