As some of you know I have been working a different shift at work in anticipation of returning to university in the fall.

Last night that effort was abandoned when I realized it was simply added stress that I did not need. They ask that you get everything clean and yet they want you to work quickly. They are also extremely particular.

I was getting everything clean and passing the inspections, but I wasn't working quickly enough. It was down to the do or die and last night I died and walked out.

I am returning to dayshift on Monday, and right now I am looking into possibly taking some of of my coursework online as well as others at night on campus. Not sure if it will work, but if not then once again I have to abandon the hope of returning to school.

If I already had my truck paid for I would consider finding a new job where the work hours are conducive to going to school, but until my truck is paid for, I will be staying with my current job.

Tears n beers,
Dixie

I am sorry. It is not easy to work nights then go to school during days then study all the time. U have not failed. Just rest a moment then u will find a different way to make it work. Keep trying. You can do it.

First off, Dixie, you did not "fail". You tried something and found out that it wasn't for you. That is not "failing". That is a learning experience. Now you know what you don't want to do, and often times that is as important as knowing what you do want to do.

Working nights and going to school can suck. Been there, done that, and doing it all over again,! You have an advantage over me, girl.....you're young!

Just a reminder. You should be eligible for quite a bit of financial aid as a single parent returning to school. It can help not just with tuition and books, but with your living expenses, as well.

Hey. Keep your chin up, girl. You're going to make it out of this hellhole. Keep your determination strong. You might have to think outside the box for a solution. Don't give up.

I may talk to my supervisors on dayshift on Monday and see if they might have a solution that all parties can work with.

One I've thought of but doubt if it will work is based upon my class schedule.

On the days that I have class, I can work nightshift debone, and on the days I dont have class I can work dayshift debone. But it would complicated to keep up with the time card, and pay rates, etc so I am not sure if it's even a viable option.

Im just like exhausted, all the arguing and begging to go to Sanitation only to realize I can't hack it, I can't do it. They didnt need to tell me I didnt qualify, I just realized on my own I wasnt going to qualify. Plus the way they were training me last night was throwing me WAY off. I just realize I cannot work sanitation at PJP. Maybe I could at WFs, but WFs has me on a no-rehire.

PFFFT! No, I dont even have the money to move. Not only that all of my family is here. I have one Uncle that works in Little Rock, but thats only because he commutes from Mayflower.

Not only that finding a job is slim, with a truck to pay for (my only means of getting around), I cant afford to risk not finding work and end up losing my truck. I just cannot afford to take that kind of risk right now. If the truck were paid for, it would be different.

Dixie, you didn't fail just get right back up again. You can weigh your options out and give yourself some time to relax and take a deep breath. I know it will all workout for itself hang in there!

I'm just sitting here thinking off all the ways I can try to make this work.

So far I come back to taking part of my coursework online and the other part on campus at night (that is if I can take the course at night).

I will take part of Monday off to go to Russellville to see if they have a solution for students who need to complete a 4 year degree and work during the day.

You re not alone! I do felt stress with my two daughters but I take one class course a time and its worth!.. Last year I take 4 courses but overwhelmed and drop out! :(

Don't have to abandon the hope of returning to school!!

Try take one class course for now until pay off truck then can take more than one courses :)

Good Luck :D

yeah but at the rate of only one course per semester I would never finish. It would take 20 years or more to complete a 4 year degree.

I had planned on taking 3-4 classes per semester.

Is no college in driving distance that would offer night courses?

ATU is within driving distance, but their night offerings are slimmer than their day offerings. Which is why I will probably take some courses online and others at night. I just need to get my butt over there and start asking questions at the Registars office and see if they can work something out. I just wish the sanitation shift could have worked out because the hours were perfect, but I just couldnt work fast enough to satisfy them. And if I did work at a fast pace I would skip stuff and end up having to go back over it any way so it really wasnt that much faster.

Who knows maybe they will tell me to try Sanitation again later with a new trainer to see if it works out better then, but it'll have to wait until Christmas. I've been told the person I was training with has run 3 or 4 people off from Sanitation and back to debone.

Oh well just another failure in the books for me.

It's not a failure, Dixie! You did something you wanted to do but it was not up to your expectations. But you have come up with a few ideas that is worthwhile checking out. One thing at a time. :)

In the meantime, go and do something you enjoy and don't wallow in misery!

I agreed to that too.

What about relocating to a different state with more opportunities for a better job and colleges nearby?
