Social Workers sometimes don't do their job. They just think teenagers are teenagers. I don't think the school system is perfect in intervention.

Something's fishy.

You're right, not every school system are perfect. Even though it may be seemingly flawed, yet, it should still have been up to the social workers to notify to the proper authorities and to notify the parents of the teenagers. I just find it ironic because a social worker's job is to safeguard the children's well being and yet, it wasn't intervened.

:gpost:

On the flip side, a social worker's trust is, strongly, dependent upon trust. For every flighty comment or thought that passed through a teenager's fast-paced mind, you'll report? Would that result in a destruction of trust? Which one to trust and which one not to? Perhaps Gloucester High's social workers were not as experienced?

When to know? Through the news?

Well I have to agree with Maria, teenage parents usually learn how to be parents faster than that they had graduated from high school. When I was student at high school, my high school have a special program for teenage parents, not only for mothers, but also fathers too as parenthood, almost all of students who became parents in my school district go to my school for that program, that program have the daycare volunteer and have playground, a playroom, everything for the children. Most of them are from the college across the street from my high school, the teenage parents learn how to take care of the children through that program, I am amazed how help that program had done, there's lot of my friends have the baby during the high school and they still keep those babies today and I had graduated since 2005.

There is LOT better ways to pick instead of abortion.

That's the thing. Oftenly, Social Workers are faced in a situation where they have a dilemma or rather being between in a rock and a hard place. The trust is a dicey issue to begin with.

Hypothetically, If I was in the social worker's shoes at Gloucester High School - I'd ensure the well being and advise the teenagers of the enormous responsibility of taking care of a baby, so and on. Also, not only that, I will take every comment (even if it wasn't true) seriously and to investigate the procedures because they are still regardless, a minor.

I have to agree with Joile on this because it true that most teenagers do dump their babies in dumpers or trash or left on porch in the cold ,, they don't know what to do. Some do learn to be parents but they do get frustrated and give them away. Lot of teenagers don't realized being a mother so young can take away their chances of finishing high school and college when a child is brought in to the world. I watched a show tonight called " baby borrowers " and giving teens their babies to borrow to teach them that raising a child is serious business and also it not a game. This was good tonight it teach them that they are not ready to be parents.

I saw them on GMA few days ago

Guys, keep in mind.. the age of consent in Mass. for girls is 16 and boys is 18 so those couple were 17 and 20.. no law were broken. it is not "THEY ARE CHILDREN having CHILDREN!" as screamed by one of the commenter...

Maybe.. but I consider teenagers still can still act like adult instead of being called children. Teenagers are smart enough to know the difference between right and wrong and making mistakes. That why school provide sex educations to teach them to use protection if you gonna have sex and avoid gettig a girl pregnant or giving each other STD or even worst Aids. Kids still need to realized when you bring a child in the world or get STD or AIDS, there is always going to be a high price to pay for the mistake and stay with you for life.
