Obama administration lawyers are planning to file a legal challenge to a controversial Arizona immigration law within a month, according to a senior administration official.

The Justice Department would not confirm the claim, saying only that "The Justice Department is continuing to review the law."

Federal government lawyers who have been working on the expected challenge for several weeks will most likely file their arguments in federal court in Phoenix in the days leading up to July 28, when the statute is scheduled to take effect, the official said.

Although the Justice Department indicates no final decisions have been made at this point, officials were put on the spot when Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in a recent television interview in Ecuador the government "will be bringing a lawsuit" in the case.

Administration officials have indicated the question of Arizona usurping federal authority to control the border and enforce immigration law is the most likely federal point of attack against the state law signed by Gov. Jan Brewer earlier this year.

There are some really interesting pics that go with the article, if you want to click on the link.

This will be an interesting case to see play out in the courts

Yeah, I am interested in how this all plays out. I think the lawsuit could have been predicted, though.

Ya I am also predicting a lot of back and forth drama when it gets to the court. Get the  ready. I can already see the news headlines. Fox with Arizona, CNN with the fed and MSNBC playing Obamas cheerleader (unless Arizona wins, if so they will blame him for not doing enough).

:laugh2: Much as I hate to admit it, you have probably hit the nail on the head with that prediction!

The Obama administration could just use the money they are going to spend on a lawsuit and use it to secure the border.

you might want to tell that to Arizona. They could have used all the money on fixing its domestic affair rather than wasting it on legislative process to pass the immigration law and future lawsuits.

Oh - let's not forget that they spent over a few millions bucks for lawsuit settlements relating to immigration.

I don't pay AZ taxes.....doubt Steinhauer does either.....If the Feds did there job there would be no need for an AZ law.

The DOJ attorneys are going to get paid whether they sue AZ or not. No great surprise here. I predict that we're going to see some really ironic signs during protests.

Excellent.....lets get them cracking on that major backlog of immigration cases since we are paying them. Or any other backlog........Or just downsize them..... :)

Already saw some attached to the article from CNN. They were changing photos every minute or so.

this is not the right way to do it. Because of AZ's stupidity - we taxpayers have to pay for this as Fed is taking action against AZ.

The Feds are CHOOSING to take this action. They could chose to secure the border and protect Americans instead. Another poor choice by the Feds....imagine that.

Which goes to show exactly where their interests lie....and it's not really about securing the border. And where's the 1200 troops he said he would send, too?

Hmmm....

Yeah it's a pattern with this Admin.

Fail at securing the border.......Then fight the people trying to do the job rather than work with them.

Fail at inspecting a well.......Then point fingers rather than working with people to help clean it up.

Fail to keep promise by putting all healthcare debate on C-Span.......point fingers and air a last minute meeting.

And people still believe this guy......sad.
