I'm not rich and I try to live my life and contributed to the community and etc... Bush should be paying to help people or something... :madfawk: bush!

He is helping

the community.

He got many people working.

The designers, cooks, cops, security guards, drivers, and others...

They all are getting big paychecks.

Sorry, but $50 million is too much. That $50 million could be added to the funding for the "No Student Left Behind" act.

I agree that is far more important than spending it on coronation.

It seems Bush is wasting even more money on his lavish upcoming inauguration despite the ongoing war in Iraq.

For shame!

Bush 'the king' blows $50m on coronation

The story in the link says, "The $50m bill is mostly being paid by private donations...."

and, "The Commander-in-Chief's Ball is being hailed by organisers as a fitting tribute to American soldiers on active service. More than 2,000 troops and their partners, selected by the Pentagon, will take part. Most have served in Iraq or Afghanistan or are about to go there."

Yall just jealous

If you become President, you might spend that much money on yourself too.

I wouldn't. I see no point in spending too much.

Yes, I'm agree with your comment, Banjo.

This is ridiculous.

As Reba pointed out, most of it is coming from Private donations. Back in 1993, I was lucky enough to attend one of the Inaugural Balls of Bill Clinton and I can tell you that a lot of money was spent on that little shindig ;)

Even if Bush paid for this out of his pocket, I don't understand what the issue is. If he wants to spend money, and it comes from his salary, he has every right to do so....just as you have a right to spend your paycheck any way you see fit. Just as I am a government employee, would you tell me that I cannot purchase a house with my paycheck...or spend money on parties because it was the taxpayers that fund my paycheck each week?

ah taylor but the choice he made is not exactly the best. i mean we are having many issues at the moment... Bush could have use it for better things it just shows me he cares more about himself than people around him. I dont see anything he did that actually helps us... including students or students wannabe for colleges, doctors, medical, social security... i heard he wants to cut down SSI (dunno if thats true or not) hes gonna get all of us broke and here he goes... spending money on something that i do not think is really neccessary.

Spice,
I know where you are coming from in that he shouldn't be spending money. My point was if it is his money from his own pocket, then why not? If you hold him to the standard that his paycheck is not his (not just his paycheck but if he has investments or other sources of income) why not hold everyone to that standard?

Telling the president (or any government official/employee) that they can't spend their paycheck because their are problems in the world is the same as telling fast food workers they can't spend their paychecks because there are hungry homeless people up the street.

There are also plenty of other people that take in more money than George Bush who blow their money on things and I don't see the public outcry. Bill Clinton makes a fortune on appearances....why doesn't he do it for free on principle or donate all that money to a cause? The same could be said for sports players, movie stars, corporate CEO's ,etc.

I couldn't imagine spending 50 million of taxpayer money, but I don't see the problem if its coming from his own pocket or from private donations.
If you were having party and I donated $100 to you to help pay for drinks, would you see it as a problem?
