So, I know that maby people with CI jokinly refer to themselves as CIborgs. So are there any nicknames for a bilateral CI recipent? I was thinking maybe "Biborg"? any other names or suggestions? How about BICIborg? Suggestions? "Anyone...........Anyone.....Bueller......Bueller"
Sorry, Its an old movie quote from Ferris Buellers day off. I couldnt help it. Im trying to relieve a little nervous energy and Im home alone with no one to mess with. I'm sorry, I'll stop.

Good movie! Sorry I can't help you with the nickname. I can appreciate how nervous you must be right now. I really wish you guys all the luck tomorrow and I hope you and your wife get some sleep tonight!

Lillys dad,

Of all the bilateral CI users I know, I haven't heard any of them refer to themselves by a particular nickname except for "ciborg." However, I like your suggestion of "biciborg." :)

Er...to be highly technical and precise...

The name is cyborg (not ciborg) and it can be shorten to 'borg as a nickname. I simply call myself "jokingly" a borg as many others. ;)

As for having two CIs as in bilateral, how about bilats? I do like biborg as it takes bilateral and cyborg and combines them.

sr171soars,

Thanks for the spelling correction. It has been awhile since I've seen the term "cyborg" and because of that, I forgot how it was spelled. :)

No problem. You weren't the only one making that spelling error. I just wanted to get that straight before it would be impossible to do so... :D

I have always seen the spelling "CIborg" referring to a person with a CI, hence the intentional misspelling of the word.

cyborg -vs- CI borg

BiCi-Borg might do....
BiCiCyBorg.... too long... not convenient....
BCCB???... BCBorg...?

BiCi-Borg has my vote.! But I won't use it.

It's like using CI-kids...
The "name" implies that the child is defined by the CI.
This obviously is not the case. Lotte is her own person. Stubborn (who did she get that from...) sweet, active, smart etc.
Her CI is not what we focus on. It "just" helps her to communicate and socialise with her surroundings.

Cloggy, it is a playful way of referring to CI. The only place it si actually used is on the internet.

I know, I realise that. Actually, I like the "Here comes the CI-borgs" gif.....
It's fun to use it.

But in the long run it might backfire. People that know nothing about CI will use it with wrong idea's behind it...
But I agree with you. For insiders it's a playful way to describe our kids.....

True, you should never even try to anticipate the actions or thoughts of the ignorant!

Cloggy, I watched this show few hours ago.. It aired yesterday which I missed. So I had a chance to watch it tonight and it was good. Since you are oversea then you would be able to watch the video online (folks, no cc in the video online) and that same show is available as podcast in iTunes. So here's what Michael Chorost sent to me letting me know about the show;

Watch "22nd Century" tonight on PBS

Dear friends,

I've written a new television show for PBS called 22nd Century. It airs tonight, January 17th, at 8pm on PBS (that's channel 9 in the Bay Area.) It's about brain implants and the idea of the World Wide Mind. I'm the episode's writer (my credit whizzes by at the end), but I'm also one of the interview subjects, about 15 minutes into the show. The point of my interview is that cochlear implant technology can help pave the way for future innovations.

If you miss it, not to worry - the show can also be watched for free via streaming video at 22nd Century . Home | PBS.

It's one of three pilots PBS is testing for a new science series. The pilot that gets the most viewers and the best reviews will be awarded a 10-episode PBS series.

So help this writer stay employed in 2007! Please watch the show and give it a review by going to the show's page, 22nd Century . Home | PBS.

You can also read my reflections, musings, and wild speculations on the show (and much more) on my own website, Michael Chorost.

Thanks and warm regards,

Mike

Cheers!

OH the reason I posted above post is because the word "cyborg" is mentioned several times.

And there it perfectly fits... used by people who know their stuff.

But have a look a DN, where it is used as a curse.

I've read DeafNotes, it is pretty anti CI. And Sweetmind there is, as usual, full of shit.

Correct,
I post there as cloggy5.. (After cloggy, cloggy2, cloggy3, cloggy4.....) Just to prevent nonsense being spread over the internet.

Now you CI-lovers... do not go there... Do not confuse those good folk with success stories... they have enough to deal with cloggy5...

You took the words right out of my mouth, Lucia! I was going to mention Sweetmind, but didn't know if I should. I've read her posts on DN and she is as anti-CI as they come.
