Anyone have lactose intolerance?

I have lactose intolerant since it was occured in 1997 after terrible sick with alot of vomiting and diarrhea, also I was diagnosed with lactose intolerant from doctor in clinic at hospital. I don't know about what happen but I got sick after virus or bacteria has been grew in my smotach, it was back in 1997.

It does got worse then I had see doctor at clinic in 1998 again and they asked that I had test or device that goes in my smotach since when it was under anesthesia then doctor was tried to fixed it in my smotach. After that, I was wake up and feel like shit at first time then when some hours later and start feel alot better. I haven't got diarrhea so often, not much worse as in 1997 but I had took med as Rx everyday to maintain my smotach. Now, I had stopped this med since 2002 or 2003 because they looks pointless to me and it does not help so enough with lactose intolerant.

Now, I'm going to avoid any food that contains lactose (such as regular milk, cheese, ice cream and others) because I got diarrhea so often at my work, that fucking annoying to go restroom about 7 time, that make nightmare for me.

Really? Have you tried take lactose pills (Lactaid) before drink milk or eat ice cream?

I can eat ice cream or drink milk with lactose, also I can get bad diarrhea and cause my butt to dry up, that's not comfortable to work with like that, blah...

I had took lactose pills and don't work so well, still got bad diarrhea then fuck it.

If my smotach is hurt so enough then Rolaids multi-symptom does help alot...

I love milk from Lactaid, that's taste better than soy milk.

I have it,
I use lactose free milk, Lactaid pills (double doses),
and anyway avoid any dairy products. My case is not that severe, though
so I can have an occasional ice cream or cheesecake, or have a tea or coffee with a bit of real milk without paying "penalty".

Lactose intolerance is something that occurs naturally with age. That is the main reason it happens.

As little babies we produce an enzyme called lactase - lacta-A-se,
that assits us with digesting the sugar lactose lact-O-se in milk.

In nature, as we age we normally at one point should be weaned off mother's milk, and that is when (and why) the production of lactase is stopped over time.

but we humans discovered cow's milk so we continue to drink milk way past our babyhood.
but, at the same time the production of lactase is still being stopped.
That is how many people become lactose intolerant when older.

There are some dairy products that are considered "safe" for lactose intolerance, for example youghurt. be aware, though, that sometimes a regular milk is added to improve the taste and to sweeten the youghurt so you may still get cramps and bloating form eating it.

some medications containg lactose. For example a painkiller Fiorinal my have it. so, always look out for detailed ingredients list.

here's nice site about lactose intolerance:

hope that helps.

oh, one more thing, I forgot.

Ok, I suppose you mean your stomach?

You know, the test for Lactose Intolerance involves
~taking blood (lactose tolerance test), or
~blowing into some kind of tube (hydrogen breath test), or
~taking a stool sample ( stool acidity test).

I would think since you were put under anesthesia and had some device (probably a camera) inserted, it was to see if you have something else- like ulcer. not for lactose intolernace....

Ulcer, maybe other inflammation of the stomach or intestines, would explaing terrible pain you may experience. If Rolaids help, maybe you have increased acidity (too much acid) which is painful and also would indicate
it is something else beside Lactose Intolerance.

May I suggest to go and see your dr again, and ask him to write down clear all diagnoses about your stomach pains?
just to be sure.

There could be another thing, too, also separate from L.I. and from ulcer - some people can have an allergy to milk. And allergy is NOT the same as intolerance.
Milk allergy is usually being alergic to milk proteins (which is not sugar like lactose) and
can have similar symptoms to L.Intolerance plus hives, body swelling, wheezing.
The test to determine milk allergy is also different from the tests for ulcer and L.I.

I was lactose intolerant without even really knowing it. I just found that I was eating better when I switched to a vegan diet (which is naturally lactose free).

I find vegan icecream much tastier then ice cream made with cow pus. I used to keep having sickly after taste whenever I ate icecream.

There are plenty of dairy substitutes so there is no problem about going dairy free. It's much better for you too.

My Dad My Sister and I Am Lactose Intolerant. My sister is ok just taking Lactaid. My dad does nothing for his and i don't do anything for mine anymore because lactaid doesn't work and it's to expensive to buy lactose free dairy

I am mildly lactose intolerant since I was little. I know that I tolerate dairy products some days better than others, and I must have a certain amount of milk. A couple of weeks ago, I had a lemon meringue pie and a large glass of milk. Of course, since it's so mild, I never think anything of it. Well, minutes later I started to feel weird like I was going to throw up. My stomach was feeling weird making me feel weird and gases flowing back and forth around in my stomach. I remembered that it was a reaction to the milk, and I know if I have too much I can have weird reactions.

I want to avoid dairy products, but I don't know how to live without milk because I have oatmeal. I have never tried that with water. I think it's so weird, and it'll never taste the same. I also like coffee, so...aaaahh!!

I tried soy milk, but a month later I got real bad case of severe acne around my jawline. I know some doctors say food don't have any effect on acne, but I really don't believe that to be true. After I stopped the soy, the acne went away. That was the only real change I made at that time. They were so weird because I never got acne like that ever.

Also, I never want to get used to Lactose pills because I don't think it's healthy to take pills all of the time. I think it's best to avoid the source of reaction as much as possible or take something natural instead.

Lactose pills is just what your own body use to produce to help you digest milk - and enzyme Lactase.
Your body used to produce this enzyme - and not anymore. that is why you can't digest milk anymore.
That's why they invented it in a pill and liquid form to be taken orally.
It is NOT the same as for example pain or cold medication.

Just because it is manufactured outside of your body doesn't means is "unhealthy".

On the contrary,- it helps you digest milk which otherwise is not fully digested so the benefit of drinking milk is not whole.

Think of it like this- (it's just an example) - to digest all the food you eat your stomach needs "stomach acid".
For some reason your body stopped producing this acid and you can't digest your food properly anymore. you feel sick, gassy and bloated, the nutritions from the food is partly wasted.

Luckily they invented "stomach acid" in pill form. Is the same as your body used to make.
Once again your stomach can digest the food as it should.

(remember it's just an example to illustrate how body's things work, meaning there is no real "stomach acid" and "acid pills")

So, go get this Lactaid pills and drink the milk you love.

I've noticed that if I drink milk that is treated with that hormone drug, I do get sick, but, if the container says "from cows not treated . . . " then I can have it. With that said, due to the fact that I am going vegan, I drink soy milk. How many chemicals are in regular milk? How are the cows treated and fed? Not very good, which is why I am going vegan.

It's not from lactose issue, that different from hormone.

Hell no, I don't want be vegan because more limited selection food for me.

me too...i can have some stuff like certain ice creams with not too much milk and not plain ice cream, and cheesecakes sometimes but pure milk or choc milk (yumm) i cant have to i buy the lactose free milk so i can have it with my cereal:)
o and definitely NO cheese for me please!

Nope. I'm not bothered by milk, butter, yogurt, ice cream, cheese, or any other dairy products. Until I was in my 20's, I drank milk with just about every meal. I still love dairy products.

Have you tried rice milk? Was the soya you tried Non GM? If it wasn't Genetically Modified soya is really not too good for you but Non GM or organic soya is really good for you.

I'm glad you don't want to take pills for something that can be altered so simply with a change of diet.

I most definately want to try rice milk. A lady I talked with at the grocery store in Duluth said it takes about two weeks to get used to and you'd never miss milk.

I love Lactaid. I tried soy milk but tastes weird. ;)
