I'm curious if anyone still uses TTY with analog phone line, either on the computer running TTY program or a standard stand alone TTY machine.

We just applied for a phone line because we need a dedicated phone line in case we receive calls that's important, like my friends and my gf's work since lot of her co workers use TTY, our parents in case. Also, we would like to use the fax once in a while, too. We haven't used a TTY in years until finally pretty soon will be connected. Besides, we still have the old Superprint 4425 sitting around.

There's nothing to be embarrassed, just state if you have a phone line with a TTY or don't.

Thanks!

I do have a TTY connected to a phone line, no problem - down in Aussie though. These TTY's you got are the same as mine down here. Lol.

Modern Technology emerges when the old fashion TTY's dissolves, a lot of people are using SMS via mobile phones instead of using the old fashioned TTY's but I hear that in USA, they have a new technology for the deaf the VideoTalk thing, down in Australia, we dont have them ....yet.

In US, it called videophone and already released in last few years ago.

I barely know any Deaf people who still use a TTY. Why keep a TTY anyway? Baduot is so slow, and you have to use "GA". A Hard-of-Hearing friend of mine got DSL and a videophone. I recently told him to ditch his TTY and get a CapTel. He traded his TTY in for a CapTel with his state's program. He absolutely loves it. He doesn't have to use "Go Ahead", and he can use STS (Speech-to-Speech) relay, for Hearing people who do not understand his voice. He can also be rest assured that he can access 911 quickly in case of an emergency, with his voice, rather than type on a TTY. He can also call his Deaf friends, who still use TTY, with relay, so it's not like he gave up anything.

CapTel also gives him freedom from difficult English. My friend knows ASL better than English, so if he reads something he doesn't understand, he turns his videophone off, and then he uses his CapTel to call himself with VRS. The interpreter says, "The person you're calling doesn't seem to be answering the videophone. Would you like to leave a video message?" He then leaves himself a message, and then he checks his e-mail to see what the message is in ASL. Getting that kind of freedom is impossible with a TTY.

Soon or later, I don't know when BUT I believe that Videophone will go globally! VP has been advanced so much, and this is gonna to have impact on everybody in the world.

I still have the tty machine but not using it since I have netalk.net and it alot better than the machine cuz too many wiring in my house.

I still have TTY. TMobile, Bank Branches and other companies have their own TTY, I have advantage it since it is 800 number and its free call.

No but I do have tty is in basement with deep Dust. :giggle:

I have a TTY because several of my Deaf friends still call me on it. Some of them don't have computers or mobile text, so that's the only way we can keep in touch.

Yes we do have two of them here, one of them is a phone in all ( use as regular phone and tty )...

Yes I do have two of them. I use one TTY in the kitchen, connected to the phone line. And other one is in the box somewhere. Mostly I used i711 relay on the computer.

I do have TTY and VP... both.. some of my friends do not have VP they call me on TTY... AND.. whenever someone calls my roomie on VP and someone still can call me on TTY.. same time.. it is no problem...

yea i still have new tty but havent use this since i use nextalk.com use call LD with my friends if they dont have computer... so most time i use VP

Both my TTY is broken. I didn't buy another TTY yet, it had been long time.
So, I depend on my husband. He call for me to make an appt, that is all.

I have TTY at my home in Michigan so my parents could use them if they call me or Sequoias to connect so it will be more easier for them(because of my mom, she do TRULY hate Relay so much) and, our vp isn't work correct, my mom do have the VP also... So, we do connect in vp or text or email or im or calling... My mom would text me or call me on the VP first, but I didn't respond back or my pager break, so my mom could call me on the phone instead... TTY is wonderful work, I will rather to keeping it for calling and such like that because it's more forever and don't break down so easily... Because I had a tty that is so old, I had that since I was 4 years old until around 20 years old or so, it finally broke down... But my parents already bought me a new tty when I was maybe 16 years old.. They have that, so they can connect us so easily. Also, it is more easy for Sequoias' parents to connect us because they don't have the cell phone, when if they plan to come up here and want to let us know what's up than, know nothing... So I consider TTY is better than pretty anything.. Sorry for saying that, everybody :D

I have two tty. I dont use them anymore. We don't have phone service. We use internet cable. I use At and t relay on computer to call people. I use emails or text with my mom and family. I use text with my husband all the time. My husband and my mom don't like Relay because Relay annoyed them so much. I talk to deaf people on emails or Im or alldeaf.
