Oh, there are plenty loss-hearing singers. However, for HOH, few did made it if they understood their own vocal.

i'm surprised that artists don't go deaf or at least HOH for all the loud music they are surronded by. I sometimes have music a little too loud but i do that so i don't actually hear myself. but i still do i just like it loud.

Rapper Foxy Brown who became Deaf overnight and now she is using cochlear implants. So she explained about her deafness that she is completely "cure" by now because of the surgery.

They do, sometimes. Extreme case-in-point: Frankie Wilde.

I sing. I have a wonderful voice teacher. Good singing is not dependent upon hearing (as opposed to staying on pitch, which is). The act of singing comes from the way you encourage the various muscles in your body to work together to produce a clear tone that resonates in the right places; this is based on being aware of how those various parts FEEL, not how they sound. The sound is merely the end result that takes care of itself.

Because of this approach, with the help of my coach (hey, this rhymes, let's light a roach!) my voice has gone from the "deaf zombie" voice to a voice that only my girlfriend can occasionally identify as having a little "down in the throat" problem. I do voice exercises on a regular basis - exactly the same ones any hearing singer should be doing.

Feel free to hit me up for tips. I'll share what I know.

Every time I start singing she interrupts me so I have just given up and don't sing around her much anymore.
If you ever feel the need to bust loose, you can always book a studio session with Audiodef! You know you are welcome here any time. I'm sure he'd have some good pointers for you, too.

I'm sure a lot DO suffer hearing loss. I can tell you that as a formerly avid concert-goer (LOTS of metal concerts!) I have some hearing loss from that. I was always "too cool to wear earplugs" when I went to shows. I also have tinnitus really badly now. LOL!

There is also Signmark, I think. (We are not sure whether he does his own vocals, but if he does, he's amazing.)

Also, Audiodef, didn't you used to have a roommate (deaf) or a friend who was an opera singer?

I *think* I read that Signmark hires somebody else to do his vocals, at least when he does English instead of Finnish. Sean Forbes does his own vocals, though.

Thanks. I thought Signmark had someone else doing them. In fact, I think I remember reading that he collaborates with other artists regularly.

I dated a guy that was a blues singer and he had a friend that is a successful singer. We where having lunch together and my boyfriend friend said I could be a singer, I thought he was joking , but he meant it . He said it did not matter that I had a speech effect, I was told it not be noticeable when I was singing. The guy worked with Stevie Wonder and other big name singers. So you can be singer and be good at it, Go for it!!

I think there are audio machines they can hook up to you and it listens to you and lights up when you hit the right note and pitch. Also there are books on colors that teach you to think in colors when singing a note. Helps you get the right pitch.

Well - I found out that the church I grew up in and another after we moved farther South both recorded me when I sang solos for the church. I had a severe loss at those times. We also have a recording of me, after I went total deaf, singing with my brother on acoustic 12 string guitar. I sang Silent Night in German and was not aware that my cousin had recorded it. Seems they play it each year at Christmas. By the way, I only know the 1st verse in German, not the whole carol. My kids asked me to do it this past Christmas and I did. Mother said I sang totally in key through it all. Not bad after not hearing anything for 5 years at the time.
