Hi there I'm wondering why the fast internet is running slower through that router connected to my computer. Is there a way to configure the router to make it run faster. I am not sure if the router isn't "compatible" with Macs. Does anyone have the same problem? It used to run fast on a different router that isn't a D-link. It is a Sorenson VRS router.

I believe that Sorenson VRS has no support to Mac users so that's why I'm here to post.

It has to do with modem, and how much your ISP limits your internet speed! Almost all routers* already exceeded the speed that your ISP offers.

*I am speaking for today's router, not the router found back in early 90's.

It has nothing to do with the modem. When I used a different router, the internet is fast...when I use the Sorenson VRS router it runs slow and I can notice a big difference in speed drop, it's the router NOT the modem.

Anyone else know how to configure router for that?

Is the Sorenson VRS router the only router on your network? If not and you have another router set up as a DHCP provider, disable DHCP on the other router.

Sorry, I'm not too familiar with MACs today since OS 8.0.

I am using the compusa router as the main router directly from the cable modem, it runs fast and does pretty good. I tried plugging the Sorenson VRS router to the compusa router and the VP didn't work at all. I even tried resetting the VP and it still didn't pick up, I guess it prefers direct route to the cable modem instead of piggyback with the main router.

Is there a way to use the compusa router as a main router set up instead of using the sorenson VRS router going to the computer? It may be the only way to bypass it.

I don't understand why Sorenson had to make their own router and not think about supporting it for Mac and PC if there's problems. I know they had to add all that stuff in the router to work smoothly with the VP, but still. I knew it's a D-link router re-branded as a Sorenson VRS router.

Your compusa router needs to be configured correctly so it will work with the VP, and give you the speeds you expect. Need the following info to help:

DSL or Cable- (Include ISP name, ie., Verizon, Comcast, etc...)
kind of router and mod3el no. (Did you say it was a D-Link?)

With this info. someone can get you going faster!

If you are feeling that your router is slow.. how about checking ping? So, that may help you to see what's your ms (milliseconds) results..?

If it's about 100ms to 200ms then it's slow..
If it's over 200ms then it's HORRIBLE..
If it's under 100ms then it's good..
if it's under 50ms then it's excellent!

With this info. someone can get you going faster!

ISP name is Millenium Digital Media cable internet running on a Motorola Surfboard 5100

Router is compusa brand wireless broadband router
2nd router is Sorenson SR-200 router (Sorenson VRS router)

The compusa router has a different ip address that doesn't work with VP, so the Sorenson SR-200 router does just fine.

You didn't state what kind of IP address I should ping to. I used the Sorenson SR-200 router's IP so here's the results.

You can ping anywhere you want to check.. ie: ping Yahoo!

Recently, I see your results that is obviously where you ping from your local computers not outside. :)

It looks like the result is that most web sites start off slow when you type in a web address and get quicker when I browse thru. I wonder why the Sorenson SR-200 router behaves that way, there's something with the delay.

Thanks, that helps a bit.

Does the compusa router have a model number on it. The Sorenson router is not needed once you get the other one configured right.

The Compusa router should be configurable. I'll look it up. Be back in a while if no one else helps out first.

Yea, thats very strange.. Try ping without router and see any better?

The Compusa router runs on BR-6204Wg engine which is branded by Edimax, possibility re-branded to Compusa.

I hope to get some help soon. ;) Thanks everyone who posted in here trying your best to help me.

That's without the router with cable modem directly to the computer

What kind of internet connection that you using? Your speed is nearly 20 mbps.

I think it was cable with speed package or T1-T3.

Heh, I wish I still have 20mbps but not anymore. :) Was beta testing for "super high-speed" just for short time. Now, mine is back normal to 8mbps down / 768kbps up.
