The town of North Pole, Alaska is a reliable producer of sexually abused children. It is a small town with some large problems. This state has been flying under the radar for much too long as for the amount of this kind of thing that goes on.
This young woman never had a chance. The system that should have saved her was barely working.
The political agenda up here is to help the resource based industries that own and feed most of the politicians. They often are actual employees of the same industries they provide billions of dollars of tax breaks and infrastructure support for.
I was impressed by our online newspaper Alaska Dispatch again for putting a spotlight on this tragic case. It gives me a small bit of hope that things can actually improve up here.
