Anyone get any anime for christmas? I know I didn't.... LOL. I think I will join Netflix and start watching and finish some anime series. I started Samurai 7 and got to volume 4 or 5, then the video store at the time didn't have the remaining 2 or 3 volumes... I'd also like to watch up on the 2nd, 3rd, and so on seasons of Initial D, which is highly recommended for racing and drifting fans.

I didn't get any anime for Christmas.

When it comes to anime, it's something that needs to be understood by the buyer.

I can't just say, "Mom, I want Death Note for Christmas. It's an anime."

The first volume for Death Note came out recently. It can only be found in the animation section in most places like Circuit City or Best Buy. Some places have it under "Special Interest".

When your mom hears what I want, she will probably be like... "Eh?" When she goes to the store, she will probably think... "Oh, anime sounds like animation. I think I'll get him The Simpsons Movie instead."

Death Note LOL! You r right, I prefer to get it myself, instead of asking for it. Although I can ask my sister for it next christmas.. She's good at knowing what extatcly I want, and making sure she has the right thing.

I wanted to read/buy Death Note, but not around my parents or family. I think I'll have to sit down one day at a bookstore or library and read up as much as I can.

BTW everyone, I prefer manga over anime, I just find manga much better and more imaignation-provoking. Also, oftentimes the original story is in manga form, and the anime form is butchered for money, like Bleach, etc.

Forgive my ignorance. What is different between Cartoon and animation? I'm just curious how it would be described?

Cartoon is made from America and some other country and Anime is made only in Japan. There is currently over 1000 titles in Japan, Thats like 50 times more than cartoons. Its very very famous in Japan.

They aren't always butchered for money.

Sometimes, companies have a right to copy the name and characters... but not the exact storyline. So, they improvise the best they can. Maybe, the creators of the manga didn't want to make the story exactly the same.

Sometimes, an anime is made... but a different company also decides to make the same anime. To avoid copying the exact story, they try something different. One example would be Tenchi. There are many Tenchi series and movies. One Tenchi series had a very slow and long storyline where Tenchi is just a helpless guy, then it climaxes at the last episode where Tenchi reveals his power. Another series had a lot of ups-and-downs throughout the series where Tenchi actually used his powers here and there. The other characters used their powers as well. It made the story lively throughout the whole series.

From what I hear, Death Note is very accurate with the manga. We'll have to wait and see when the whole anime series is released. ;)

Yep!

My dad keeps referring to "anime" as "japanimation". So amateurish.

Anime started from a manga will often follow the manga until the anime passes the manga, then it starts on 'filler'..

I find it funny you 're explaining anime to me. I'm a S-Mod at Animenation.com forums, so I know my share. Heh.
Don't ask me to S-Mod here, though. I'd go nuts with the engrish and double-triple-quadrple postings...

Anyway.. any of you are curious and wants to know more about anime shows. You can find a Categories on AniDB. Example like, if you want watch Superpowers, Romance, Sci-fi, Sports, etc. Its pretty awsome. I started to watch anime when I found out about AniDB. But just a little bit of warning, there is adult categories as well. Just don't let your kids know about this lol.

I also recommend...

AnimeGround - download anime

Every month, they offer free downloads for the complete series for anime-of-the-month.

Each month, they vote for the next month's title.

A few months ago, I downloaded Hunter X Hunter. That was a cool show. :)

You are downloading illegal torrents. Nice. You are a real anime fan. People like you cause anime to be expensive because you won't pay for it, but rather download 'the anime of the month' for free. You'd be instantly banned at Animenation.com for posting that link.
Real anime fans buy anime, not steal.

Yep. I was right, without EVEN clicking on the link. Bad Vampyrox! LOL.

Actually, the site offers fansubs... which aren't illegal. The fansubs are not licensed.
