unfreaking believable...

So...a friend told me to try geek squad, the cloest place to repairing your gaming consoles, and I called there, asking them if it is possible for them fixing gaming consoles such as the PS3 and the videogaming troubleshooting specialist said yes and I explained to him about the situation and he said it may need to be cleaned out or something and I said what if it needs to be replaced? he said it depends on the store on whats left in stock or something so...the prices vary depending on the situation.

However...I don't know if I would trust geek squad. I would need your opinons here people...is geek squad pretty good with gaming consoles?
Maybe you could find the reivews against them, if it is good, then go for it!

All depend on location. Some of them are smart and some of them are dumbass.

If some are seriously a dumbass, then it's beyond a mystery to me why they get hired in the first place...

Geek squaD seems pretty good, but the repair is not fast as you think.

Hard to hire right people but salary is low enough to hired. :) No, I never work for Geek squaD before. My friend's brother used work there before.

So can you ask him if Geek Squad is trustable on gaming consoles as the PS3?

Try this on Youtube.com. I am not sure if this would help fix your corrupted Firmware yourself.

Like what's The Highlander said "All depend on location. Some of them are smart and some of them are dumbasses.", I am afraid Geek Squad might can't fixes your PS3. :| But It's your choose. :)

Well...I rather them to be honest straight to my face to see if they can or can not fix it. If they can't then I'll take it to Sony then.

If they can...then they better be honest about it and not rip me off.

I already tried this afew days ago. Nothing worked.

Ok shoot.

My sons wanted PS3 playstation for Christmas. I'll be cautionious about it. I probably would wait few days to a week AFTER new firmware been out. But it may not make any difference due to data communication glitch might happen during Firmware download or PS3 glitch. I don't plan on plug ethernet to PS3 for my son cuz they don't play Online games anyway.

I still recommend a PS3 over the Xbox360 anyway cause the failure rate on the PS3 is still much lower than the Xbox360's obviously...most PS3s get disc read errors which is becoming a very common issue now...but at least it would still work for downloaded games and internet browser, etc.

Xbox360 obviously wont work at all when it have the RRoD or the E74 Errors.

But anyway, I have reached my decision. I've read too many bad reviews about geek squad so I'm better off sending it to someone who have manufactured the console...Sony. for a whopping $150 over a stupid disc read error *sigh* so I actually have no choice so I'll have to do that when I have the time and money. At least I have already bought CoD4 : Modern warfare at walmart for $25 (black friday sale) but still got to finish my christmas shopping first anyway.

Well, it failed AFTER the firmware update you did to it....so it's not the PS3's fault and it's Sony's fault for that issue. Why do we have to pay $150 for a failure that we didn't cause.

Beats the hell out of me...that's what I would love to know.

You know...it's funny. one guy told me that he said many people would think it's the laser shot dead, but it's actually the update that's somehow preventing the laser to read discs so he stated that Sony is already working on the bug fixes to 3.10 firmware update that has given ALOT of ppl problems with their consoles...so if what he said is true and that Sony put up a fix to the update, then I hope to God it will make my PS3 read discs then...so let's see.

This is what someone told me on another forum:

The disk read error is only common because Sony doesnt know how to code updates properly, especially ones for the older 60GB.

Its unlikely that its your laser, people often assume it the laser when the machine doesnt read disks but most of the time its firmware corruption. If you have updated to 3.00, 3.01 or 3.10 which you must have done to play MW2 then its likely that that update has done this to your system like many others here on this forum.

If you fix or replace the laser yourself it will break again within a week or so because the firware will eventually disable that one also. You could open you PS3 now and I can be pretty sure that you will see the blu ray laser light up violet blue when you stick in the disk which shows its not broken. If you have Linux installed that can also prove the drive is not dead because disks will read in that but not in the XMB OS.

You can for now try the recovery console and selected rebuild database or restore file system, that seem to have given some success to bring the drive back to life (including mine although only for a short period). Basically you can either wait to Sony release a fix, or wait for them to have there asses sued off (the lawsuit has already started) or pay for them to 'fix' it which is them giving you a refurb!

However, I do not have linux installed in my PS3 so...*shrugs* I don't know so let's see.
