Profoundly deaf - anyone like me, have CI?

Similar to what I have asked, in the first post, if peolpe with similar condition as mine, would be eligible to be candiate for the CI.

The answer is a simple yes. Yes you can, but if you want to is up to you.

If I would want a CI, it won't happen until at least late 2009. Health insurance policy

Must be hell for them to hand them the paperwork they require, eh?

So Australia does not have the national health care like England?

We have health insurance companies here in Australia. I am with MBF.

chevy,

would you please do your research about ci's before spreading misinformation?

He already admitted to me that he knows nothing about CI's, has never met a child with a CI, and only knows about them because he's "heard stories".

To all looking for real information:
Please ignore him.

oh, okay faire_jour. thanks. i still think he should do a little more research before spreading false information. hopefully, he will.

In the United States, medical costs run from US$45,000 to $105,000; this includes evaluation, the surgery itself, hardware (device), hospitalization and rehabilitation. Some or all of this may be covered by health insurance. In the United Kingdom, the NHS covers cochlear implants in full, as does Medicare in Australia. According to the US National Institute on deafness and Other Communication Disorders, the estimated total cost is $60,000 per person implanted.

i was talking about the fact that in your prior post you mentioned the cost of ci surgery, but also made it sound as if insurance wouldn't cover the cost. at least this time you cited a source (albeit a weak source) that listed the correct information.

I am tempted to email to these professionals, but what I have researched, but I am not sure if it would be true. I read People who over 18, is a deaf mute, is profoundly deaf, uses signs and are well invovled in the deaf community is not candidiate for a CI - this what I thought, being a deaf mute; I am not a mute. I talk very well, I sign fluently (Auslan) and am well invovled in the deaf community but I balance well within the hearing world, such as my workplace and other hearing socialisization.

Finally I am able to login. it has been a mess.

JClarke - I have a friend who is over 18, deaf mute, and profoundly deaf and uses sign and has a CI. He hears environmental sounds and loves it. check out bluejeanguy.blogspot.com

As for me, I did not have much usable hearing at all. I only gained very little with my hearing aids, but I wore them daily. My hearing loss is a profound severe loss. My right ear only tested at 1% and my left ear at 17%. I picked bilateral CIs and it does improve the workforce and socialization.

Even if you have to wait until 2009, you need to start the process now. I hear Med-El is a great CI for difficult cases. Also never get ahead of yourself. I was denied many years ago too. As soon as I went back in 2005, I was immediately a candiate. My hearing just got worse. Good luck and remember to have appropriate expectations.

I don't need to discuss about health insurance. I won't hear about complaining discussion from you and faire_jour. I can discuss with other ADers in other post. Not JClarke's post. Thank you for you and faire_jour

Someone and you let JClarke get infomation about CI.

I paid $957 for bilateral cochlear implant surgery. It was worth every penny.

wow that cheap? Odd!! I was expecting several thousand dollars! :-o

who's complaining about anything?

i'm not stopping jake from getting information about ci's. i'm just trying to make sure he (and others considering a ci) don't get inaccurate information from you.

with that, i have nothing more to say since this isn't the topic of jake's thread.
