Newbie needs volunteers

Yep. Or there's the matter of interacting with the deaf club/community/deaf coffee/DNO and seeing how others sign the same stuff.

I see what you mean.... thank you Botel.... sorry I forgot your screen name before I went to this page... lol After dinner you can see my version!! Although I warn you... protect your eyes from the blasphemy that is my horrible, awkward signing!! :)

But in order to say more, I might effect the way you sign your interpretation and I am looking for a natural, comfortable storytelling experience.

I can even keep you posted on what we specifically do with it. I just cannot do that until after I have the video.

You're awfully secretive. Doesn't go over well here. We see this same stuff here ALL the time. We get the standard ASL students, but we also had one recently that posed questions/videos in a deceptive way that a bunch of us answered without understanding at all that it was a homework assignment.

We're tired of being guinea pigs.

Edit: I quoted your initial post before you changed it.

I'm wondering...since you state that you are using this for a class assignment, are you getting releases signed by any one who agrees to participate?

I still would like to know exactly what the assignment is. Maybe from your syllabus, or from the instructor's written handout of the assignment. There are some things that sound a bit strange about the way you are explaining what is required.

Oh, so like guinea pig? Class will try understand what make this deaf person interpret *this* way and what make that deaf person interpret *that* way?

Yes must be in ASL

Somehow I would like to be able to get the video myself too/ If possible, please email a version to me at

Ok, now that I understand what you are asking and are here for, I have to ask you as a member of this site, for what reason should I do this and why would I trust you to see me?

I wouldn't mind signing for friends or people I've met before, but you strike me (and probably others) as a complete stranger plus are hoping to see who I am, while I do not know a thing about you nor what the motives of the project is for..

LOL... wow... I do enjoy all the interaction here!!

I do not mean to be secretive, I am sorry, my teacher just specifically told me not to say too much because she didnt want the video to be specified in any certain direction....

I am not getting releases from anyone, it isn't necessary if they are voluntarily participating, plus I am not using the video to publish it in any way. The use is only for this class for this assignment.

I am sorry for anybody that has wrongly used this forum in the past, but I am not looking to do so.

I can send you the syllabus Jillio if you would like, if that would help, I would not be able to use a video you would give me then, because it might be affected by you knowing the assignment, but I would be willing to give information to anyone that is willing or able to vouch for me and my assignment.

I have made my video I can show you....

How do know if you aren't some kids just fooling around and are trying to kill some time!

Don't you think that it would be a good idea for you to work with one or two ASL students to work on the video interpretations so that you or another ASL students can sign the interpretation about the topic you and the ASL students decide to pick? I don't know why you have to ask us for the video interpretations just because we are Deaf and Hard Of Hearing. You have to fend for yourself to find someone in person to work with you on this. You are picking the wrong forum to do that. So I am sorry that we can not help you.

No this is actually for an ASL class. To understand the different ways different people express things. What words they choose, how their facial expressions look, etc. This is not an experiment in that sense as much as it is a learning experience of how deaf people use their visual language to express and convey concepts and ideas. As students this is easier for us to do this way because we already know the story. If we already know the story it is easier for us to follow, even if we see something that isn't familiar (I know I get distracted if I see a sign I don't know and then I miss four or five more signs just going through the ASL dictionary in my head trying to place the unfamiliar sign). So by understanding the story already we are going to watch and see how different people tell the story.

wow

The guinea pig comparison is just wrong, why would you discourage someone trying to learn the language from trying to understand the language from native speakers. I may be interpreting your comment wrong, but it seems like you see me as already looking down on deaf people or here just to use people. In my opinion it is these comments that discourage already timid, beginners and those willing to learn from continuing on. I do not mean to offend anyone, use anyone, or anything of the sort.

I understand the concern with my sincerity and I totally respect that there are people that do such a thing. I can understand the hesitation and respect it. If no one would like to help that is okay, but please do not belittle me for being inquisitive and curious.

Oh, don't feel bad. Just let us know your teacher so one of our members in your town can get in touch and verify. :)
