my dr advice me to do operation to change the bone from inside thee ear, i need to know is it successsful operation or hearing aid is better please advice

Do you have otosclerosis? Sometimes I understand that can be a very effective treatment.

Because if i take off my CI, i cant hear anything, like nothing 100% dead cochlear nerves.
Oh because your nerves were cut during your CI surgery, correct?

Hair cells can be damaged during some surgery as the electrode array is being positioned, and often were in the earlier surgeries or in repeated surgeries. It's normally not detectible bc most CI recipients are already operating in the large profound range prior to surgery. If some hack decided to reach out -- pretty far from the cochlea, in surgical distance -- and cut your cochlear nerve, which is also known as the auditory or acoustic nerve, you would not be able to hear using your CI. This would be significant medical mistake.

I'm too deaf for hearing aids. I have a Cochlear Implant.

Hi Bottesini

can i have to know the name of the surgery and how they will do the surgery i mean is it visible in outside area or what?

thanks for your all reply

Stapes surgery I believe. And the just replace the bone with titanium. It is tiny and is inside the middle ear. It does not show outside.

I have a lot more hearing loss than you and I use hearing aids. They work perfectly too.

Not everybody benefits from hearing aids. It works for some people, and it doesn't for others. I wore hearing aids for 10 years prior the implant, they worked great but I wasn't benefiting from hearing aids anymore, especially on the left ear.

My understanding is some people use the wrong kind of hearing aids. For example, When I first started using hearing aids I used aids for moderate hearing loss, not profound, and they were analog. They did nothing for me. Now I use super power digitals and they work perfect.
